Job Description


POSITION SUMMARY

The practice of sonography is performed by a segment of health care professionals responsible for the administration of high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques for medical purposes. Sonography integrates scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction, and care resulting in diagnostic information. A sonographers performs the ultrasound examination that creates the images needed for diagnosis. A sonographer recognizes conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure and exercises independent professional and ethical judgment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs sonography procedures based on the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS) and Practice Standards of the SDMS Code of Ethics.
  • Understands and adheres to departmental exam protocols.
  • Actively participates in quality control and quality assurance activities using the \xe2\x80\x9cAPIE\xe2\x80\x9d model.
  • Completes annual mandatory education requirements on time.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between patients, licensed practitioners, and other members of the support team.
  • Remains sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology.
  • Demonstrate that he/she is competent in production, use, recognition, and analysis of ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Use independent, professional, ethical judgment and critical thinking.
  • Continually assesses professional performance as a responsible member of the health care team by means of quality improvement and customer service.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance patient care, public education, knowledge, and technical competence while embracing lifelong learning.
  • Maintains licensure requirements \xe2\x80\x93 BLS, ARDMS, New Hampshire Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy License (NH MIRT)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE

Education: Successful completion of accredited (CAAHEP) educational Sonography program recognized by the ARDMS. Registered or registry eligible with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Experience: Previous experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is desirable. Individual must have experience in abdominal, obstetrical and gynecological scanning. Familiarity with neurosonology and vascular scanning is preferred.

Certification/Licensure: Compliant with Registered or registry eligible, American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or equivalent. Must remain up to date on CME credits. Registry must be obtained within 12-months of accepted employment date. Must become Vascular registered within 18 months of accepted employment date. Ability to obtain BLS qualification during orientation period and maintain during employment.

Software/Hardware:

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Schedule: Must be available to work weekends once a month and rotational holidays. On-Call coverage may be requested from time to time to cover NICU when needed.

Other: Per Diem Varied Shift, plus above requirements.
