Job Responsibilities

With our Agency\'s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health and worked within the Forensics Department, 7901 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the Social Worker, working under limited supervision, you will perform diversified social work duties for a complex population consisting of clients with multiple diagnoses and psycho-social problems including criminal charges. These duties include completing psycho-social assessments, acting as the Second Examiner for Competency to Stand Trial, Criminal Responsibility, and Capacity to Conform Evaluations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs mini-mental status evaluations as needed. Collaborates with First Examiners to render an opinion to the court.
  • Provides competent services to adolescent and adult outpatient populations using age-appropriate and cultural competencies.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Requirement:

A bachelor\'s degree in social work from a program accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting body for social work programs, or from a social work program whose standards are at least equivalent to the minimum standards required by the nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the Board.

Agency Requirement:

A master\'s degree from a Social Work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, LMSW-SC Board of Social Work Examiner\'s, and one (1) year of practice experience at this level.
