Accredited by the CSWE, the Social Work Department is housed in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare in the College of Community Engagement and Professions. The Department confers BSW and MSW degrees, and with the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology, jointly offers a PhD degree in Social Welfare. The doctoral program prepares students for leadership roles such as university faculty, program evaluators, and policy analysts. The MSW program, which offers both online and in-person curricular options, emphasizes generalist practice. In addition, students can complete accredited programming in substance abuse counseling and school social work along with interdisciplinary certificates in trauma-informed care, applied gerontology, and nonprofit management. MSW students can also earn coordinated degrees with various programs across campus.


Key Job Responsibilities:

Provides classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including grading Assists in developing techniques and/or model programs for carrying out instructional goals in disciplinary area and may help identify ways in which new techniques could be of assistance Assists in defining the objectives of the program and plays a major role in carrying out program duties Develops teaching techniques that enhance course effectiveness in alignment with desired outcomes and established strategy Supervises the day to day activities of work unit employees involved in instructional support as needed Assesses learner performance and prepares reports recommending instructional improvements

POSITION

SUMMARY

:


The Department of Social Work seeks to fill one instructional academic staff position. The person who fills this position will teach

four courses per semester during the Fall and Spring

academic

semesters

. The position is open to professional social workers with experience in

any area of

professional

social work practice

; professionals with expertise in

substance use services

are particularly encouraged to apply. Once hired, the instructor will work with the Chair of the Department of Social Work along with the undergraduate and graduate S ocial W ork P rogram Directors to determine which specific courses to teach per semester . The courses will reflect the instructor's expertise and likely include face-to-face and online instructional formats .



The person in th is position will work independently under the general supervision of the Chair of the Department of Social Work. The position will start at the beginning of the spring or fall semester of 2026 .


Minimum Qualifications

:


Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited University program Minimum three years' experience teaching social work courses in higher education Minimum three years post-MSW work in the social work profession

Preferred Qualifications:



Experience working in substance use service or another area of instructional need in the Social Work Department (e.g., mezzo practice.) Evidence of teaching excellence in higher education (e.g., awards, training, evaluations) Experience teaching in the online format Licensure as Clinical or Advanced Practice Social Worker Target Salary: $55,000 - $65,000
