This vacancy is located in the Calcasieu Parish Child Welfare Office in Lake Charles, LA (Adoptions unit).
The Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an employee eager to support the safe and successful outcomes for children and families. This applicant has a wonderful opportunity to gain significant work experience in a rewarding job with Child Welfare. The incumbent would serve as administrative support to the child welfare case worker. Additionally, duties of this position will require contact with children and/or agency clientele. The applicant is not required to have a background in the Child Welfare field but should possess genuine care, compassion and concern for supporting the mission of keeping children safe while helping families become self-sufficient.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in social services; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
A bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
Assists the courts by reviewing all adoption petitions filed with the Court for accuracy and completeness.
Review adoption petitions and the child's legal availability for adoption, contact with attorneys and/or Judges and the general public on the adoptive process and on the Children's Code statutes pertaining to adoption procedures and termination of parental rights, reviewing birth certificates and understanding Interstate compact laws.
Completes and submits confidential adoption reports to the Court to assist the Judge in rendering decisions regarding agency, private, intra-family and foreign adoptions; assists other regions and other states through Interstate Compact agreement by contacting natural parents, and/or providing/requesting courtesy reports; reviews court reports prepared by licensed private adoption agencies and DCFS Adoption specialists for compliance with the Children's Code and DCFS policy requirements.
Determines continued eligibility for subsidy renewals in accordance with state and federal statutes and regulations, sends completed subsidy renewal packets to the Adoption Unit Child Welfare Supervisor.
Assists adoptive families as needed by responding to requests for information, providing information about the Louisiana Voluntary Registry, and assists in referring families for post-adoption services.
