Job Description



Works under the general supervision of the medical director or Respiratory Therapist to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education.
Responsibilities \xe2\x80\xa2 Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history). \xe2\x80\xa2 Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols. \xe2\x80\xa2 Review the patient\xe2\x80\x99s history and verify the medical order. \xe2\x80\xa2 Follow sleep center protocols related to the sleep study. \xe2\x80\xa2 When patient arrives, verify identification, collect documents and obtain consent for the study. \xe2\x80\xa2 Explain the procedure and orient the patient for either in center or home sleep apnea testing. \xe2\x80\xa2 Provide age appropriate patient education. \xe2\x80\xa2 Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary. \xe2\x80\xa2 Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. \xe2\x80\xa2 Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Maintain and document all applicable required education. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Comply with the company\'s attendance policy. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Perform work in a cost effective manner. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. \xe2\x80\xa2 \xc2\xb7 Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department\xe2\x80\x99s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Education \xe2\x80\xa2 High School Diploma or GED (Required) Education: Completion of A-Step Program and be RPSGT test eligible after hire Experience: 6 months experience preferred but not required
