Job Summary

The Sr.PrEP Specialist (SPS) is responsible for coordinating and running the PrEP Clinic at WWH. The SPS has an essential role in ensuring that the PrEP Clinic maintains the highest level of customer satisfaction through the coordination and provision of services for clients. SPS will be responsible for seeing clients enrolled in the PrEP Clinic for follow-up, conducting one-on-one PrEP counseling sessions, providing support for medication adherence and risk-reduction, delivering refill prescriptions to clients, and administering injectable PrEP. The position will play an integral role in the CH Department in assuring grant service targets are being met, documentation is correct and up-to-date, and clients are being maintained in treatment, care, and services. Further responsibilities will include other administrative support functions.

Role-Specific Primary Essential Duties:
  • Serves as the face of the PrEP Clinic to answer general questions about PrEP and the clinic.
  • Picks up PrEP Clinic clients\xe2\x80\x99 prescriptions from our pharmacy daily and keeps hold of those prescriptions until delivery.
  • Provides one-on-one PrEP and sexual health education sessions as part of the PrEP Clinic.
  • Conducts HIV/STI testing.
  • Administers Injectable cabotegravir for PrEP for PrEP Clinic patients.
  • Draws blood via standing order and processes the labs.
  • Provides referrals to the PrEP Navigator and for other WWH programs and services when applicable.
  • Conducts HIV/STI testing.

  • Assists with medication inventory.
  • Assists with quarterly re-engagement campaign.
  • Assists with the creation of monthly reports.
  • Coordinates efforts with medical providers.
  • Documents all work activities according to established standards, collecting data for production in weekly, monthly, and annual reports, and assists with the creation of those reports as necessary.
  • Assists with the maintenance of testing kits, lab materials, and other physical inventory.
  • Performs outreach to community agencies and social groups, promoting collaboration, referrals to Whitman-Walker programs, and enrollment of new clients in Whitman-Walker services.
  • Aids the PrEP Program Assistants in verifying pharmacy insurance coverage for the PrEP Clinic clients.
  • Provides support to the PrEP Navigator when needed.
  • Conducts HIV testing for clients as a backup counselor when needed, providing HIV prevention counseling, referring clients to appropriate programs and Whitman-Walker providers, and coordinating logistics of initial medical appointments for all HIV-positive individuals.
  • Responsibilities include other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to CH departmental tasks.

  • Knowledge of ambulatory healthcare, HIV/STDs, substance abuse, PEP/PrEP.
  • Knowledge of the DC community.
  • Ability to conduct sensitive, empathetic interviews that respect the dignity and diversity of clients.
  • Excellent face-to-face interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively educate, treat, and counsel clients from diverse educational, social, and economic backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the charisma, energy, and enthusiasm to present and facilitate group and individual interventions.
  • Well-honed analytical skills, including the ability to understand, interpret, and present data related to the tracking of various Community Health-related events, diseases, and behaviors.
  • Developed organizational skills, including the ability to juggle several tasks at once and the capability to consistently reprioritize work as necessary to meet deadlines.
Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree or at least four years of direct experience.
  • HIV testing and training certification from INSTI preferred; experience providing counseling to people living with HIV preferred.
  • Experience working with a broadly diverse population and the ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required.
  • Completion of phlebotomy training is required.
  • Completion of administering injection training is required.
Working Conditions:

Working conditions for this position are normal for an office environment. Individual may be required to work evenings and/or weekends and organization events.

Physical Demands:
  • Lifting: No more than 20 lbs. and infrequently.
  • Movement: Standing and sitting for long periods.
  • Visual: Long periods on a computer.
  • Concentration: Extended periods of engagement with computer systems where concentration is key to accuracy in data entry. Intermittent periods of engagement with a telephone system to respond to inquiries where concentration is key to task performance.
  • Communication: Direct and indirect communication. Written and verbal competency.
