What you will be doing:

In this role you will be responsible for managing and assisting on tasks associated with complex transportation planning projects which meet client satisfaction, project budget and schedule. This role exercises independent judgement and may provide oversight and work direction to less experienced staff or supervision of staff and receives oversight and work direction from work group leaders.

The Senior Planner position will serve as a project manager or task lead on a variety of transportation planning projects, including feasibility studies, long-range transportation plans, system studies, corridor alternatives analysis, and funding applications. You will be responsible for knowledgeably developing multi-modal solutions, including various forms of transit, pedestrian, and bicycles facilities, and incorporating them into integrated transportation systems or corridors. This position also involve assisting clients with competitive state and federal funding applications.

Education and Experience:

  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Urban and Regional Studies; Urban Planning; Geography; Public Administration, Policy Studies or other applicable discipline from an accredited college/university
  • Requires 12 or more years of progressively responsible planning experience or equivalent.
  • AICP Certification strongly preferred, but not required.
Desired Qualifications/Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of transportation planning methods and application at the local and regional level
  • Experienced in agency and stakeholder involvement techniques and processes
  • Experience researching methods and statistical principles related to urban growth and development
  • Applied knowledge of methods and techniques of effective technical report preparation and presentations
  • General knowledge of MnDOT project development process
  • General knowledge of state road design manual and state aid requirements (transportation focused)
  • Thorough understanding of transportation funding (state and federal level)
  • General knowledge of NEPA regulations (environmental focused)
  • Strong skills in client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of client satisfaction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent composition, grammar, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well within a team atmosphere
  • Must possess a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license. Travel will be required
