Convened around subjects like finance and economics to innovation and the role of corporations in society, Economist Events delivers a mix of live & virtual events which further The Economist\xe2\x80\x99s brand vision - to lead the debate in pursuit of progress.

Currently we are seeking a Senior Marketing Manager to join our New York based Events team. The successful candidate will manage the development and execution of marketing campaigns to drive high-level audiences to our Americas events through a broad range of marketing channels.

Accountabilities

In the role you would be expected to:

Event promotion and engagement

  • Develop an effective marketing strategy for each event, based on market research to include: target market, deadlines, lead generation, pricing, discounts, incentives, media and marketing partners, advertisements, emails, direct mail, PR and social media
  • Achieve delegate revenue targets for each event within agreed budgets
  • Create, develop and effectively execute compelling marketing campaigns using a range of channels (direct mail, web/email campaigns, advertising, telemarketing, social media)
  • Manage existing supplier relationships on print, mail, design, advertising
  • Negotiate and run barter agreements with external media publications, industry and professional associations
  • Monitor, track and provide analysis to help measure the effectiveness of all campaigns
  • Develop an effective online presence for each event and monitor traffic and trends on Omniture to inform future campaigns
PR and social media
  • Execute effective PR strategies for events, working with external PR agencies and sponsors to help generate wider coverage
  • Develop and implement a social media plan appropriate to the target market, promoting through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube as well as relevant blogs, forums and online communities
  • Source and manage relationships with PR agencies in the Americas (press releases, pre-event coverage, press attendance)
General
  • Develop and present marketing and PR plans to external clients and sponsors
  • Attend at selected events to assist with PR and social media activities
  • Manage ad-hoc freelancers and assist the head of events with specific projects
Experience, skills and professional attributes

To succeed in the role you must have:
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree
  • 3-5 years relevant marketing experience (e.g. digital acquisition and/or events marketing)
  • Strong campaign management skills
  • Preference given to those with solid working knowledge of event products, production and logistics, and/or experience working with sales teams and clients, event organizers, AV & logistics suppliers.
  • Excellent written English and proof-reading skills \xe2\x80\x93 Spanish and/or Portuguese skills would be an advantage
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience in Salesforce, Eloqua and tracking systems such as Omniture and Google Analytics preferred
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • An interest in business affairs, politics and economics
To succeed in the role you will be able to demonstrate:
  • A strong understanding of customer acquisition, online marketing and new media channels.
  • Experience with email deployment and back-end website editing tools
  • Comfort managing customer database software and new event technology
  • Contract negotiation and budget management skills
  • Well-developed analytical skills
  • Interested in learning and exploring new marketing methods, thinking creatively about new ways to reach audiences
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize heavy workload and tight deadlines.
  • Reliable, results orientated, a finisher and a strong attention to detail
  • Proactive thinking and planning
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proactive and able to effectively influence peers & senior stakeholders
  • Strong collaboration skills and an understanding of department needs and objectives along with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to fulfill flexible working hours during busy periods; ability to travel 20% of the time
  • International and current affairs, technology literacy
