Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Senior Librarian (Technical Processes).

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Senior Librarian (Technical Processes) or Librarian 1. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with SirsiDynix\'s Integrated Library System, online acquisition control, creating and maintaining online serials control records, original cataloging, legal continuation publications, and experience with financial records is preferred.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department\'s (NYSED) Office of Cultural Education is seeking candidates for a Senior Librarian (Technical Processes) position in the New York State Library (NYSL). Under the direction of the Associate Librarian (Technical Processes), the incumbent of this position serves as the Government Documents Librarian and is responsible for overseeing the New York State Document Depository Program and the regional Federal Depository System in New York State. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain adherence to state and federal requirements to ensure access to state and federal information including management and processing of state and federal documents in all formats;
  • Create serial control records and conduct original cataloging on all government publications using Resource Description and Access (RDA) guidelines;
  • Collaborate with the Preservation Librarian and Digital Services Librarian to make sure born digital publications are properly archived and preserved following NYSL policies and procedures;
  • Provide support and outreach to New York State agencies regarding deposit of their official publications at the NYSL and conduct site visits to New York State government agencies and Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) selectives across New York State to educate and engage stakeholders and support the programs;
  • Respond to questions and provide guidance to selective federal depository libraries in New York State regarding the FDLP;
  • Manage the NYSL\'s eXchange process and oversee the Government Publishing Office (GPO) eXchange program in New York State;
  • Communicate and coordinate with FDLP and GPO staff and respond to information requests/surveys and assist in the assessments of New York State federal depository libraries;
  • Review, create and maintain content on the NYSL\'s website and social media platforms related to the New York State Document Depository Program and compile and distribute emails related to the programs and services;
  • Provide information services for five hours per week as the Government Documents Librarian to a diverse public onsite, by telephone, and via email; and
  • Conduct site visits to New York State Government agencies and FDLP selectives across New York State to educate and engage stakeholders and support the programs.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. For 55b/c appointment, candidates must possess the minimum qualifications, a current 55b/c eligibility letter and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Promotions and transfers may change appointees\' negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of degree will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. This position will require 5% in-state travel. The work schedule for this position includes flexible hours of Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm with participation in an anticipated rotation of extended hours including Saturdays.

This position may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this position are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate\'s salary at the time of hire. Candidates appointed at the trainee level will be required to successfully complete the traineeship to advance to the full performance level title and salary.
  • $51,986 (Trainee 1- NS equated to SG-15)
  • $57,984 (Trainee 2- NS equated to SG-17)
  • $64,589 (Full Performance level SG-19)
This position leads to a maximum salary of $82,036 based on annual performance advances.
