As the Senior Industrial Designer - Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our products. You will lead a team of industrial designers, fostering a collaborative environment where creativity thrives, and excellence is the standard. Your role will involve both hands-on design work and leadership responsibilities to drive the design process from concept to production. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and marketing, to deliver exceptional consumer electronics products that exceed customer expectations. * Lead and inspire a team of industrial designers, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a culture of excellence.

  • Develop design strategies, conceptualize ideas, and create compelling design concepts for consumer electronics products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project goals, user needs, and technical constraints.
  • Conduct research, analyze market trends, and identify opportunities to create innovative and user-centric product designs.
  • Drive the design process, including sketching, 3D modeling, prototyping, and iterative testing to refine and validate designs.
  • Conduct design reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure adherence to design principles, brand guidelines, and quality standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest design trends, materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies relevant to the consumer electronics industry.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure feasibility, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness of designs.
  • Present design concepts and ideas to stakeholders, including executives, clients, and partners, effectively communicating design rationale and benefits.
  • Lead and participate in user research activities, such as user interviews, usability testing, and user-centered design workshops, to inform design decisions.
  • Monitor project timelines, allocate resources, and manage priorities to meet project milestones and deliver high-quality designs on time.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging open communication, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the design team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Industrial Design or a related field.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in industrial design, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful consumer electronics product designs.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team to achieve outstanding results.
  • Expertise in design tools such as CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping tools (e.g., 3D printers, CNC machines).
  • Proficiency in creating 3D models, renderings, and technical drawings for product development.
  • In-depth knowledge of design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies related to consumer electronics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate user insights and business goals into innovative design solutions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in leading and managing projects, including resource allocation, timeline management, and budget considerations.
  • Passion for emerging trends in consumer electronics, technology, and user-centered design.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, adapting to changing priorities and delivering high-quality designs under tight deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits Details
  • An employee\'s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital\'s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital\'s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
