The Base Mountain Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in delivering a safe, efficient, and exceptional on-mountain experience for guests and staff throughout the winter season. This position oversees all daily mountain operations--including Lift Operations, Ski Patrol, Terrain Park and the Snowsports School--ensuring cohesive communication, operational excellence, and alignment with Hatley Pointe's service standards.
Responsibilities
Oversee the daily performance and coordination of all mountain operations departments.
Lead morning and end-of-day mountain operations briefings to align department goals, staffing, and mountain readiness.
Monitor weather, snow conditions, and guest volume to adjust operations and staffing proactively.
Maintain close communication with the Mountain Operations Manager regarding conditions, incidents, and resource needs.
Ensure all guest-facing mountain departments deliver an exceptional, safe, and seamless experience from first chair to last run.
Collaborate with Ski Patrol and Snowsports School to uphold safety, instruction quality, and guest care standards.
Support Lift Operations teams in managing lines, flow, and staff engagement to maintain efficiency and positive interactions.
Recruit, train, and supervise seasonal staff across assigned departments.
Build a collaborative and motivated team culture focused on professionalism, safety, and guest satisfaction.
Conduct regular performance check-ins and provide feedback, coaching, and accountability.
Maintain clear and open communication between departments to ensure smooth coordination and mutual support.
Requirements
3+ years of leadership experience in mountain operations, ski area management, or related resort operations.
Strong understanding of lift operations, snowmaking systems, and ski patrol procedures.
Proven ability to manage cross-departmental teams and deliver under pressure in dynamic weather and guest conditions.
Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to work outdoors in winter conditions for extended periods.
Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
Knowledge of industry best practices and regulatory requirements is a plus.
