Arctic Valley Ski Area is a small, community-focused ski area operated by the Anchorage Ski Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our team is tight-knit, hands-on, and committed to maintaining a safe and fun environment for all.

Position Overview



We are seeking a Mountain Manager to oversee all mountain operations, including:

Lift maintenance and operations Snow grooming and snow removal Vehicle and equipment maintenance Ski patrol and snow safety
As a small operation, this is a very hands-on role ideal for someone with broad ski area experience who is ready to take the next step in their career.

Key Responsibilities



Manage and schedule operations staff, including hiring, training, and discipline Oversee off-season maintenance of ski lifts, snow grooming equipment, and vehicles Ensure lifts are fully operational and meet scheduled opening times Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems Manage department purchasing and inventory Administer the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) Fill in as needed for lift mechanics, snow groomer operators, and other roles On-call for troubleshooting during snowmaking and grooming operations (not daily)

Team Supervision



2 full-time, year-round lift mechanics 1 full-time, year-round operations assistant 15+ seasonal lift operators and supervisors 2 seasonal snow groomer operators Ski patrol team (mixed paid/volunteer)

Requirements



Strong communication and leadership skills, including in high stress situations Experience with ski lift maintenance and general ski area operations Ability to work at heights and in extreme weather conditions Experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems Competent skier or snowboarder -- capable of riding all terrain at Arctic Valley in all conditions Comfortable using hand tools, working with machinery, and work safely at heights Must be able to kneel, climb ladders, hear mechanical irregularities, visually inspect equipment, and work outdoors for extended periods Proficient with computers and business software applications Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation Must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check and motor vehicle record check Must have a valid Driver's License Must be eligible to be listed as a Responsible Person under our ATF explosives permit
