POSITION DESCRIPTION

Currently, HGL has a position open for a Scientist III / Transportation & Disposal Coordinator (T&D Coordinator) for low-level radioactive material and other waste streams associated with the soil remediation work performed at the St. Louis Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) Project Sites in St. Louis, Missouri. Qualifications could include current OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour, annual 8-hour refresher, Hazardous Waste Management and Shipping for Environmental Professionals Training, RCRA Hazardous/Toxic Waste Management Training, and possession of a DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Certificate (or the ability to obtain required certification). Good physical health and the ability to lift 30 pounds are required for performance of field tasks. The ability to work in adverse weather and site conditions, and knowledge of laws, EPA regulations, DOT regulations and OSHA regulations, are also required.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT YOU\'LL BE DOING

The person hired for this role will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and renewing waste profiles, assignment of wastes to proper regulatory classifications, completion of hazardous and radiological waste manifests, hazardous material Bills-of-Lading, and placarding and labeling railcars.
  • Independently manage or coordinate the scheduling and transportation of bulk and containerized material.
  • Overseeing all the site training records
  • Coordinating new hire site training
  • Conducting site training (DOT Level 2, Materials of Trade, Hazmat Driver, Defensive Driving, GSA, Hazard Communication, Work Place Violence, Drug & Alcohol, SAR, and MEC).
  • Local travel in the St. Louis area and vicinity will be required (
Required Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
  • Minimum of 4+ years working in a directly related field.
  • Excellent communication and organization.
  • Working with and maintaining confidential information.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with multiple organizations to coordinate material handling and shipment.
Preferred Skills

WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT
  • Ability to prepare written technical reports covering the Transportation & Disposal (T&D) of material.
  • Utilize databases and track and report material movement.
  • Identify process improvements that result in greater material-handling efficiency.
  • Strong working knowledge of analytical requirements for waste characterization, and state and federal waste management and transportation regulations including labeling, containerization, and shipping of wastes for T&D.
  • Previous experience with DOT regulations
Required Education
  • BA/BS in Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Science or a related academic field.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and refreshers.
