School Literacy Coach K-5 - Location TBD
The start date for this position is 8/22/2023 for the 2023-2024 school year.
This posting is for 6 School Literacy Coach Positions. Some will be placed at one school site and others will be split between two school sites.
Please note: To comply with Governor Kate Brown\xe2\x80\x99s Executive Order, all staff, substitutes and volunteers in K-12 schools will be required to be fully vaccinated by October 18, 2021. Position Description:
The school literacy coach helps lead school efforts to strengthen belonging and literacy instruction in all classrooms. School literacy coaches collaborate with school administration, leadership teams and teachers to build capacity for high quality literacy instruction, increase reading and writing student achievement and close opportunity gaps.
Responsibilities Include:

  • Advance culturally responsive classroom literacy instruction that fosters belonging and asset-based learning experiences
  • Promote the effective use of researched based instructional strategies that align with the district\xe2\x80\x99s literacy framework;
  • Model grade level classroom instructional practices to effectively teach the Five Pillars of Reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and text comprehension);
  • Co-plan and co-teach with teachers and teacher teams to provide effective literacy instruction and close opportunity gaps;
  • Engage in coaching cycles with individual teachers and teacher teams;
  • Collaborate with school leadership teams to create robust literacy data systems to monitor student growth and inform Circles of Support strategies;
  • Build capacity of teacher and teacher teams to use assessment data to plan instruction;
  • Provide targeted small group literacy instruction to students in order to accelerate learning and model teaching strategies for staff;
  • Collaborate with school leadership and teacher teams to evaluate and revise the use of class time in literacy blocks to maximize student learning;
  • Provide training to new teachers on literacy instruction and assessment;
  • Consult with classroom teachers and school leadership to develop student book boxes, classroom libraries and school book rooms;
  • Participate in a district-wide cohort of literacy coaches to plan and facilitate professional learning about literacy instructional practices aligned with the district\xe2\x80\x99s literacy framework;
  • Work with the district level literacy coach to fulfill federal and state requirements at Title I schools

Qualifications:
  • A reading endorsement and/or evidence of ongoing professional learning and expertise in literacy instruction; candidates without a current reading endorsement will be expected to begin working toward one after being hired
  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Oregon teaching license
