The Windham Southeast Supervisory Union (WSESU) is an increasingly diverse community with an ongoing commitment to social justice and anti-racism. We are looking for enthusiastic professionals to join us in furthering this work.

The WSESU Literacy Coach position is a district-level position, designed to provide support to WSESU teams with their implementation of the literacy portion of our Multi-Layered System of Supports for Learning. The literacy coach should be an individual who is well-versed in literacy content and pedagogy, who understands MLSS, who understands how adults learn, and who champions ideals of equity and social justice in our literacy work. The literacy coach works directly with educators including classroom teachers, academic support teachers, administrators, special educators, site-based instructional coaches, and paraeducators to improve instructional practice and student learning.

Specifically, the WSESU Literacy Coach will:
  • work with teachers to improve literacy achievement, through a variety of methods including professional development, situational coaching, and growth-oriented coaching cycles
  • provide targeted support and professional development for new teachers, K-3 teachers, and interventionists at all levels, especially around the areas of phonics and phonological awareness
  • support teachers in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data to align programming and formative assessment for core, strategic, and intensive layers of support
  • collaborate with the curriculum team to develop literacy programming within an MLSS model, particularly focused on phonics in PK-3 and literacy intervention K-8
  • maintain and share best-practice research with teachers, administrators, and other coaches
  • support site-based and cross-district teams in the implementation of data-driven instructional decisions through building team, school, and district systems
  • attend WSESU Leadership meetings and other duties as needed or assigned

Qualifications include:
  • advanced degree or coursework in literacy
  • experience as a classroom or intervention teacher, particularly in the areas of phonological/phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, and literacy intervention
  • data analysis and interpretation skills
  • training in LETRS and other science of reading based coursework/curricular programs preferred

The WSESU Literacy Coach is a certified staff position. Some additional compensated summer work will be expected. The WSESU Literacy Coach reports to the WSESU Curriculum Coordinators.
