The Health & Safety Manager plans and coordinates H&S programs that mitigate risk through a focus on prevention of occupational hazards. This role is responsible for compliance with OSHA regulations and drives Accident Investigation to root cause in addition to overseeing implementation of corrective action. The H&S Manager develops and leads safety programs, while providing training and guidance to reinforce safe work conditions and change behavior. This role maintains all safety records and partners with Operations, Engineering, and HR to drive continuous improvement in health and safety.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong communication skills. This position is responsible for two (2) production facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts risk assessments, identifies gaps, develops strategies to control and mitigate identified risks while continually improving the workplace to provide a safe environment for the employees.
  • Promotes incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors. Walks the manufacturing floor of all facilities on a regular basis to establish EHS presence and provide support.
  • Develops and implements safety programs, policies, and procedures to minimize accidents, injuries, and occupational health risks. Maintains safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Conducts regular safety inspections and audits of the facility, equipment and work areas to identify potential hazards. Advises management of findings and necessary steps for corrective actions.
  • Leads incident investigations to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent future incidents.
  • Works closely with managers/supervisors, and all employees at all facilities.
  • Develops and facilitates training for workers on issues related to health and safety.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the industry, and applicable laws, rules, and regulations from governmental and regulatory agencies.
  • Participates with and guides all safety program elements to promote comprehensive approach to Health & Safety management.
  • Develops and implements emergency response plans and procedures to address potential crises or disasters.
  • Leads Safety Committee meetings.
  • Maintains OSHA 300 logs and is responsible for submitting required reports to regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, BLS).
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of safety programs through data analysis and regular reporting. Develops, maintains, and reports safety metrics to senior leadership, operations management, and any other necessary stakeholders.
  • Participates in job safety analysis (JSA) for specified equipment and/or processes and start up processes.
  • Manages Workers Compensation process and provides support for claims management process. Collaborate with human resources to manage workers\' compensation claims and facilitate return-to-work programs.
  • Develops partnerships and maintains communication with vendors and outside resources for the enhancement of the H&S Program.
Requirements:
  • 5-8 years of experience working as a Safety Manager or Engineer for a manufacturing facility.
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field.
  • Ability to work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to train and provide support at all levels of the organization, across 3 shifts of operation.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations (e.g., FMCSA, DOT) and industry best practices and asset. In-depth knowledge of OSHA 1910 standards and other applicable standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office.
  • Awareness of the latest trends/developments in Safety and Environmental practices through regular formal training.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is an asset.
SUCCESS COMPETENCIES * Knowledge of safety regulations: Strong understanding of local, state, and federal safety regulations applicable to manufacturing and agricultural operations.
  • Risk assessment and management: Ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and develop strategies to control and mitigate them.
  • Safety program development: Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs and policies.
  • Incident investigation and analysis: Skill in conducting thorough incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Training and education: Proficient in developing and delivering safety training programs to employees at all levels.
  • Emergency preparedness: Ability to develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Communication and collaboration: Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate safety policies and procedures and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Data analysis and reporting: Ability to analyze safety data, track key performance indicators, and generate reports to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Attention to detail: Strong attention to detail to identify potential safety hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Continuous improvement mindset: Proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to enhance safety practices.
