Job Description


Overview:

Under occasional supervision, the Area Manager, Safety assists the Manager of Safety and Loss Prevention in supervising all phases of the Park\'s safety program, including fire prevention and protection, safety, first aid, workers compensation, and general liability administration.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect Park areas including rides, attractions, buildings, and grounds to ensure safe operations. Communicate concerns and mitigation actions to the appropriate division.
  • Recruit, hire, schedule and supervise all Safety Department associates. Take disciplinary action when appropriate up to and including discharge.
  • Develop and conduct training for all Safety and First Aid staff members and safety related training programs for park personnel. Works with other park departments to develop and implement safety procedures, requirements, and programs and to ensure the development and presentation of safety related training.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Park safety standard operating guidelines.
  • Ensure that federal, state and local fire/safety laws, regulations, codes and standards are observed and that required records and reports are completed.
  • Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Assist in coordinating safety and emergency protocols with local emergency response agencies.
  • Manage fire suppression and prevention activities. Assists outside inspectors and auditors as necessary.
  • Coordinate case management of workers\' compensation and guest liability claims, to include communicating with injured parties/witnesses, maintaining related documentation, conducting investigations, and completing required reports.
  • Respond to calls involving guest or employee illnesses and accidents; investigates and assists in providing emergency medical treatment as appropriate.
  • Prepares, receives, reviews and/or processes various records and reports including incident and accident reports, fire reports, inspection reports, inspection/safety guidelines, health and sanitation reports, manifest reports, logs, various reports required by regulatory agencies, material safety data sheets, etc.
  • Assists in preparing and administering the department\'s annual budget.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level sufficient to conduct employee meetings; provide detailed direction to staff, guests, and vendors; and write policies, procedures, reports and other business-related documents and correspondence.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degrees or relevant experience required.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, copier, calculator, telephone, two-way radio, fax machine, and other general office equipment. Operates an ambulance, air compressor, generators, fire suppression equipment, rescue / extrication equipment, gas detector, weather monitor, First Aid equipment, protective gear, etc., during emergency operations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations of environmental protection, safety issues and occupational health; working knowledge of building and fire codes, AQMD rules and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to climb to and work at a height of 310 feet in the event of a ride shutdown or emergency.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with highly agitated and emotionally unstable person(s) during intense situations to solve problems and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs. Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.
Preferred Candidate:
  • Valid Missouri Emergency Medical Technician License or ability to obtain.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Health, Safety, and Environmental or related field strongly
  • Experience monitoring and enforcing EMS protocols and procedures.
