Job Description



1. General job duties / types of procedures required:

  • Initiates assessment and reassessment based on the patient\xe2\x80\x99s presenting problems/needs in accordance with Grand Island Regional Medical Center\xe2\x80\x99s procedures.
  • Synthesizes pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to identify nursing priorities for care and desired outcomes/goals.
  • Integrates the patient\xe2\x80\x99s plan of care based on the diagnosis and age-specific needs.
  • Identifies individual patient safety needs, i.e. patient identification and confirmation of knowledge of surgical procedure, aseptic technique, appropriate positioning, accurate surgical counts, and availability of equipment and knowledge of appropriate use.
  • Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions, consistent with perioperative procedures.
  • Provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs.
  • Evaluates the patient\xe2\x80\x99s response to and effectiveness of interventions.
  • Evaluates patient\xe2\x80\x99s progress toward established outcomes.
  • Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care.
  • Documents patient care and related information according to Grand Island Regional Medical Center procedures for documentation.
  • Coordinates and provides care in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Facilitates patient\xe2\x80\x99s transition to the next level of care.
  • Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team member\xe2\x80\x99s practices through timely communication.
  • Serves as a role model to colleagues, students and other care providers.
  • Actively participates in continued learning opportunities and continued self-development pertinent to the work unit and duties of the job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
2. Equipment utilized in the unit/department:
  • Wound Vacs
3. Required skills, minimum years of experience, and/or education:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Minimum 2 years\xe2\x80\x99 hospital Med Surg experience
  • Experienced w/ Total joint replacements
  • Experienced w/ Abdominal surgical procedure
4. Required licensures, certificates/registrations, and/or life support certifications:
  • State of Nebraska (or multistate) RN license
  • BLS \xe2\x80\x93 AHA/ARC
5. Shift or schedule requirements:
  • 1845-0715 / 0645-1915
6. Floating to other units/departments:
  • PCU if comfortable and qualified
7. Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/department:
  • This is a 32-bed acute care facility.
  • All levels of care (MS/PCU/ICU) are housed in the same area.
8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit (nursing only):
  • 1:5 MS
  • 1:4 PCU
9. Dress Code:
  • Pewter Grey or Light Turquois
10. Tell us about the unit/department-specific training and orientation program:
  • General orientation for travelers lasts 4 hrs.
  • After that, you will shadow a floor nurse for the remainder of the afternoon.
  • You will then have 1 shift of orientation with a floor staff, then be on your own.

We are a new facility and have only been open 2 years. This is a very exciting place to work.
