Overview

This position represents an exciting opportunity for a recent PhD graduate to gain industry experience and help invent and develop new separation techniques that will be of positive impact to the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industry. This position will be in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and will be a 1-year duration. The successful candidate will be supervised by leaders in the Waters Global Research department while having close working ties with our academic and industrial collaborators.

In this dynamic role, the candidate will investigate new affinity column technologies and novel separation techniques to characterize and quantify proteins, mRNA, and viral vectors. First and contributing author publication opportunities will be realized along with chances to contribute to column development projects and provisional patent applications.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate new affinity column technologies and novel separation techniques to characterize and quantify proteins, mRNA, and viral vectors.
  • Help prepare manuscripts and provisional patent applications.
  • Formulate and implement experimental approaches, prepare reports, and provide internal and external presentations to summarize scientific findings.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments while crafting and maintaining records of test-related activities.
  • Attend and present at conferences, stay up to date on literature, aid in customer education, and be proficient in current as well as emerging applications and methods of analysis.
Qualifications
  • Recent PhD graduate with some experience in developing LC methods for biomolecules
  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or Bioanalytical Chemistry preferred
  • Hands on experiences with immunoassays (e.g., ELISA, Western Blots, Northern or Southern Blots)
  • Inventiveness and proven track record of analytical abilities and learning agility
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in LC instrumentation use/maintenance
  • Consistent record of writing for and speaking publicly to technical audiences
  • Affinity column technology experience preferred
