The Research Scientist provides laboratory and scientific research support services to assist with day-to-day activities and scientific clearance support services. General Duties: \xc2\xb7 Perform molecular diagnostic and support work associated with the detection and characterization of infections caused by numerous biological agents. \xc2\xb7 Provide samples (blood products) handling, including receipt, and processing of the samples for molecular genetic studies. \xc2\xb7 Prepare samples for shipment. \xc2\xb7 Provide maintenance of laboratory space and equipment. \xc2\xb7 Perform and monitor the full range of specialized tests and non-routine procedures for which there are standard methods and techniques. \xc2\xb7 Ensure proper collection of data and conduct experiments and studies, making adjustments in methods and procedures as appropriate during the studies or experiments. \xc2\xb7 Ensure that incoming specimens are processed and triaged maintaining \xe2\x80\x9cchain of custody.\xe2\x80\x9d \xc2\xb7 Prepare reports on scientific investigations, studies, and projects. \xc2\xb7 Develop techniques and interpretation methods to improve molecular and coagulation diagnosis. \xc2\xb7 Provide diagnostic support for epidemiologic studies and epidemic aids on emerging blood disorders and chronic hereditary disorders. Qualifications: \xc2\xb7 Well versed in executing laboratory techniques related to biochemistry, genetics, cellular / molecular biology, genotyping, sequencing, etc. \xc2\xb7 Well versed in developing techniques and interpreting methods to improve molecular and coagulation diagnosis. \xc2\xb7 Substantive record of technical publications and/or presentations. \xc2\xb7 Well-versed in Microsoft Office products. \xc2\xb7 Background investigation required. Required Education and Experience: \xc2\xb7 Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree required, master\xe2\x80\x99s or PhD preferred in a scientific field such as Biology, Zoology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other related field (Note: work experience may be substituted as a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree). \xc2\xb7 Five (5) years of professional experience working as a researcher, scientist, microbiologist and / or laboratorian with demonstrated skills working within generally accepted laboratory practices. \xc2\xb7 3-5 years of experience working in a laboratory space working with samples.
