Job Description


The Research Scientist I keep a lab journal and presents research results to the research group to support the Research objectives of the lab. The Research Scientist I is also responsible for supervising and training other research laboratory staff, developing and implementing new techniques, and communicating study results effectively. Provides support for research proposal development and submission for all SOM Dept of Medicine sections. This includes all grants and research proposals, foundation and industry submissions, clinical trials development, and student proposals. Works closely with investigators to prepare budgets, formulate the IRB/IACUC preparation and submit IRB/IACUC documentation. Works closely with PI\'s on time-line management. Prepares necessary paperwork and, where appropriate, negotiation with the funding sources. Prepares monthly summary reports for the section chiefs and chairman on numbers of proposals submitted, status of previously submitted proposals, and awards received. This position will also support select departmental office operations with any grant-related issues. Works closely with Sponsored Projects Administration and Grants and Contracts Accounting. Provides support on all manuscript submissions including drafting, reviewing, figure rendering, and final submission uploading to selected journal online portal.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with research proposals or related types of activities.
  • Superior Excel skills for data management and reporting
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to pro-actively work independently, and focuses on the given assignment, and complete the assignments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
Required Education and/or Experience
  • PhD with 3 years\' directly-related work
  • 9 years directly-related work, depending on education
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in preparing budgets
  • Experience managing research/clinical trial projects
  • Experience in IRB/IACUC preparation
  • NCURA Certification
