Research Scientist to serve in the Department of Physics, within the College of Arts and Sciences. The Research Scientist will conduct independent research in the specialty of single molecule biophysics to investigate DNA-protein interactions, chromatin and nucleosome structural dynamics, transcription factor targeting, and transcription co-activator functions. Research Scientist utilizes expertise and familiarity with single molecule force spectroscopy, single molecule fluorescence, and protein and nucleic acid biochemistry to develop new knowledge and answer important scientific research questions and technology development. Responsibilities include identifying and defining new scientific problems in these fields and helping to develop new extramural proposals for research funding support. Other duties include support for the Lumicks C-Trap, preparing research papers and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals, training and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and attending meetings and conferences. Required Qualifications: PhD in Physics, Chemistry or Engineering with specialization in single molecule biophysics including single molecule force spectroscopy, fluorescence, and data analysis. Experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, nucleic acid preparation and purification, preparation and characterization of DNA-protein complexes including gel filtration chromatography, sucrose gradient purifications, electromobility shift assays, ensemble FRET measurements, and fluorescence anisotropy measurements. Experience interpreting data with prior track record of writing and publishing articles in refereed journals, representing data and papers to professional society conferences and writing and developing intellectual property disclosures required.
