Position Objective:

The Reliability Engineer applies engineering knowledge and specialist techniques to prevent or to reduce the likelihood or frequency of failures. They identify and correct the causes of failures that do occur despite efforts to prevent them. The Reliability Engineer also determines ways of coping with failures that do occur, if their causes have not been corrected; and, they apply methods for estimating the likely reliability of new designs, and for analyzing reliability data. The incumbent will also apply general quality assurance practices and principles.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes preliminary plans and develops reliability and quality engineering programs to achieve customer reliability objectives
  • Analyzes projected product utilization and calculates cumulative effect on final system reliability of individual part reliabilities
  • Develops failure mode and effect analyses and formulates mathematical models to identify units posing excessive failure risks and supports proposed changes in design
  • Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give reliability findings and recommendations
  • Determines units requiring environmental testing and specifies minimum number of samples to obtain statistically valid data
  • Reviews subcontractors\' proposals for reliability program and submits evaluation for decision
  • Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements
  • Observes conduct of tests at supplier, plant, or field locations to evaluate reliability factors such as numbers and causes of unit failures
  • Monitors failure data generated by customer using product to ascertain potential requirement for product improvement
  • Participates in structured failure analysis to determine root cause and develop corrective and preventive actions
  • Documents technical reports to support contract requirements, failure analysis or Reliability Engineering requirements
  • Develops and presents technical assessments associated with Reliability Engineering requirements
  • Develops, reviews, and approves test plans
  • Provides QA support and oversight in the areas of Manufacturing Cleanrooms, Inspection of finished goods/Packaging, Labeling Activities, Maintenance & Engineering, and QC activities
  • Maintain and report on quality assurance key performance measures and standards defined by Site Leadership
  • Investigate non-conformances and customer complaints, management of root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and monitor progress and improvements
  • Drive continuous improvement on quality standards, requirements, and best practices
  • Ensure adherence to quality systems documentation, such as quality manuals, procedures, and work instructions at the shop floor level
  • Ensure all products produced meet manufacturing requirements, visual inspection acceptance criteria, reconciliation & segregation activities, and labeling & packaging requirements
  • Application of control plans to associated production lines to ensure proactive product adherence and capability control
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards including ISO 9001 and AS9100.

Minimum Requirements:

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

The Reliability Engineer is an individual contributor with some latitude for decision making and works under general direction. The incumbent in this role will report to the Quality Manager or Director and have a dotted-line relationship with the Business Unit Program or Project Managers. The incumbent will partner with cross-functional team members to complete tasks and projects.
