Job Summary and Qualifications

What will you do in this role:
  • Places the mother on the fetal monitor and correctly interprets the strip and responds appropriately to non-reassuring fetal monitor tracings. Responds appropriately to non-reassuring fetal monitor tracings
  • Performs vaginal exams and monitors labor activity accurately. Notifies physician promptly of non-reassuring assessments
  • Titrates Pitocin and monitors patient for adverse reactions
  • Performs and interprets stress and non-stress tests
  • Completes OB/Nursery and Labor and Delivery Orientation Checklists
  • Circulates and recovers for C-Sections Assists anesthesiologists with epidural placement; recognizes and responds appropriately to epidural complications
  • Administers magnesium sulfate for preterm labor patients and pre-eclamptic patients.
  • Safely applies fetal scalp electrode
  • Provides breastfeeding education and resources
  • Acts as a preceptor
  • Performs and directs nursing procedures, prescribed treatments, based on knowledge of principles and practice of Registered Nurse.
  • In accordance with hospital policy, may insert I.V.\xe2\x80\x99s, administer I.V. medications, and begin blood product transfusion
  • Observes and records patient reactions to medication, I.V. therapy, blood transfusion, and treatment.
  • Evaluates patient\xe2\x80\x99s signs and symptoms; records and reports results. Sets priorities and modifies patient care in response to changing conditions by utilizing problem solving skills and exhibiting good judgment
  • Collaborates with physician regarding patient progress towards the outcome attainment. Assists physician during treatment and examination of patient and processes orders. Makes appropriate and timely notification to physician on patient condition changes.
  • Maintains a current, written plan of nursing care or critical pathways for assigned patient
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living including but not limited to bathing, positioning, range of motion, elimination, and ambulating
  • Floats to other units as needed
What qualifications you will need:
  • BLS required
  • ACLS and NRP (Neonate Resuscitate) certifications must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • AWHONN fetal monitoring certification within 1 year of employment start date
  • STABLE certification preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (RN) with current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nursing as RN or an active Compact State RN license
  • Prior OB/Pediatric experience preferred
