Job Description

As a nurse on this unit, you will treat patients who often have complex, multi-system diseases and/or psychosocial needs. The stay for our patients ranges from overnight observation to extended stays due to medical complexity. Patient care and communication is optimized by collaboration with our extensive team. We specialize in caring for patients who are ventilator dependent and are not in need of critical care.

Many of our nurses participate in our Specialty Practice groups such as Elder Care, Diabetes Care, and Skin and Wound Care. Our nurses also have the opportunity to advance through the Clinical Advancement and Recognition Program (CARP).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provides professional nursing care to patients in varying state of health and illness by assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing plan of care. The Staff Nurse II functions as an essential member of nursing and multidisciplinary teams, providing direct patient care, instruction, and preparation for continuing care after discharge. May take charge as operational need allows.

EDUCATION:

State of Vermont Registered Nurse (RN) license required. The University of Vermont Medical Center is moving toward an all Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) workforce. All external candidates hired into, or current employees promoted to, a RN position will be required to obtain their BSN as outlined in the terms of their offer letter.

EXPERIENCE:

Appropriate experience in specific clinical area. Varies by unit.

Greater than one year of experience.
