Job Description


: This position is responsible for performing technically accurate electroencephalographic (brain wave) testing and collecting other data pertinent to the interpretation of test results to be utilized by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders under the direction of the EEG Laboratory Manager/ EEG Medical Director. The Registered EEG Tech will have leadership and educator functions, including quality oversight of testing, mentoring and educating EEG staff, and providing an in-depth knowledge base regarding EEG technology.

Job Essentials

Performs technically accurate, electroencephalographic (brain wave) testing that is free from electrical disturbances (artifacts) that may cause unreliable studies. Collects and documents data pertinent to the interpretation of test results, including all remarkable events and relays concerns to physicians.

Provides and facilitates patient/family education by reviewing medical records and interviewing patients to obtain pertinent history and will explain testing procedures. Documents patient response to teaching/instruction and follows-through to obtain any additional information required. Key team members include: patients, families, providers, management and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

Performs biologic and physiologic quality controls (Biocals) to ensure delivery of quality patient care.

Maintains equipment and troubleshoots malfunctions (hardware and software) to ensure proper performance. Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe environment in preparation for patient care.

During the delivery of services, this role is charged with using supplies and resources efficiently and effectively.

Completes billing forms for tests in an accurate and timely manner to ensure proper payment and reimbursement.

Integrates regulatory, legal, and ethical requirements into practice to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Practices within scope of Intermountain/facility policies and procedures and understands legal implications of care delivery.

Teaches and shares knowledge and expertise with trainees, students, new employees, other hospital staff and patients and families in the provision of EEG procedures. Acts as a resource/consultant within their specialty area.

Mentors staff by providing formal and informal educational opportunities to facilitate role development and professional growth.

Provides clinical expertise by participating, coordinating, developing and implementing clinical projects/assignments in EEG. Supports standardization of department protocols, policies, and procedures for a proactive approach to patient diagnostic testing per evidence-based practice and ASET competencies and standards.

Shared oversight for ongoing process and quality improvement projects in their assigned area of accountability.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Registered EEG Tech certification.

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Intermediate computer experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and email skills.

Intermediate skills using diagnostic equipment and hospital systems.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Experience teaching, mentoring, and instructing others.

Demonstrated expertise in EEG procedures, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively with others in stressful circumstances.

Experience working in a team-oriented environment, as well as acting independently.

Must be willing to take call for EEG on-call rotation and respond/arrive within the department\'s designated timeframe.

1 year of clinical EEG experience.

Preferred Qualifications

6 months team lead experience.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. $24.71 - $38.14
