Hiring Range:
This position is anticipated to pay between $61,000 to $65,000 annually, depending on experience.
Position Summary:
Directly impact shelter killing by helping to carry out strategy, identifying and creating opportunities, building relationships with regional stakeholders and influencers, providing and implementing ideas on breaking down barriers and helping to cultivate influence in the region. This position will also work directly with shelters and communities as a mentor to identify programming, resources, and strategies to increase lifesaving on a shelter or community level in key locations and help with implementation of programs and aligning strategy with cross-departmental teams.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the regional leadership to inform projects, identify key lifesaving strategies, partnerships, and tactics to reduce shelter death in the region with the goal of having all shelters in the region achieving a 90% or better save rate by the end of 2025.
  • Leverage opportunities (grants, mentorships, education, assessments, advocacy, etc.) to maximize strategic impact, result in sustained and measurable RSK, and deliver on OGSP.
  • Provide technical support and mentorship to assigned shelters and groups and skillfully leverage Best Friends internal resources in order to aid groups in implementing lifesaving programming identified through gap analysis, engagement, and/or reviews and assessments.
  • In collaboration with cross-sectional departments throughout the organization, ensure Best Friends staff are informed and privy to progress and opportunities in regional work, as necessary.
  • Assist in evaluating requests for financial/grant assistance, administering the process, creating agreements or MOUs that clearly outline expectations and deliverables, monitor report and progress and provide ongoing mentoring of the regional recipients in achieving their goals, as needed.

Skills and Experience:
  • Solid leadership and management experience in a humane organization: 3+ years of proven successful experience, including overseeing strategy, operations, budgeting and staffing. Experience with municipal organizations and/or community cat programming preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute organizational priorities to influence change with key stakeholders including policymakers, advocates, community leaders, donors, and the media.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem solve, and to act decisively and ethically in difficult and fast-paced situations.
  • Willingness to embrace and promote positive change.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple parties in resolving issues, creating solutions, providing support, and facilitating collaboration.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and work independently in a multi-department environment with demonstrated ability to appropriate prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Experience/knowledge in the areas of animal behavior, general animal health care, and modern animal shelter & field services programming.
  • Experience with analyzing statistical information to inform program direction and strategy.
  • Ability to professionally advocate and present Best Friends\xe2\x80\x99 position on issues through public speaking and other presentation avenues.
  • Proficiency with basic computer software, including Microsoft Windows and Office applications, and comfortable learning new systems.
  • Willing and able to travel by various modes of transportation (plane, car, etc) approximately up to 15 working days a month.
  • Valid Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with access to transportation to travel on organization business.

Physical Requirements
  • Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time including typing, sitting, walking, arm, and hand motion.
  • Ability to travel via various forms of transportation.
  • Out-of-town travel for the job is expected to range up to 50% depending on the location of the jobholder and the specific responsibilities and tasks assigned.
  • Ability to be in a shelter environment and handle dogs of all sizes and cats when necessary.
  • Able to drive a Best Friends vehicle when necessary.
