Caseworker-I-IV-Reentry-Job-Description-2Download OBJECTIVE: The reentry caseworker works with the Department of Corrections to coordinate the pre-release and post-release access of services for individuals who are transitioning from correctional institutions to community supervision. The caseworker draws from the services and support systems coordinated by the community Reentry Task Force to help meet the needs of individual reentrants and help them successfully return to their communities. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must demonstrate their ability to accomplish the Essential Job Results stated below. Job knowledge / documentation required: License / Certification: Current valid Alaska Driver?s License and personal vehicle liability insurance. Background clearance check including fingerprints. Education/Experience: A combination of formal education and professional experience; preferably Bachelor?s or AA in social work or human services or similar and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties described below. Demonstrated understanding of the challenges of re-entry and strong interest in developing a support system to reduce recidivism. Preferable: Familiarity with local and statewide resources and service delivery in rural and remote Alaska. Experience counseling, explaining complex policies, client responsibilities; evaluating and coordinating services for client access; coordinating peer group meetings; applying statutes, regulations, program requirements or similar criteria or guidelines. Computer skills. Keyboard, MS programs, e-mail/internet. Ability to learn data entry program for casework recordkeeping.

High School Graduate; Entry-level work; Little or no casework experience. Requires full supervision. Mostly prevention activities, helping clients with paperwork i.e., financial assistance applications.
AA Degree or 2 years progressive experience with casework. Assigned a low number of cases, supervised closely while training on the job.
AA or specialized certificate or training and at least a year of casework experience or achieved 3 years of progressive casework experience. Ability to carry a full load of cases or nearly; 15-20 complex cases in Reentry
BA or 4 years progressive experience in field and supervisory experience. May be assigned mentoring and regional supervision of local caseworkers, specific complex case supervision.
Complete achievement of certain of the above specifications may not be required if, in the opinion of BBNA a particular candidate possesses significant offsetting characteristics, such as accomplishments, experience, education, or estimate of potential.
