Job Description

This is the advanced journey level in the series, where incumbents perform the full range of duties as the sole civil service Radiologic Technologist, Correctional Facility, in a State correctional facility or personally perform the most difficult technical work. Incumbents may also instruct or lead other civil service Radiologic Technologists, Correctional Facility, as well as clerical staff, youthful offenders or inmates. Incumbents perform under the direction of the chief of the medical facility. Typical duties may include any or all of the tasks performed by Radiologic Technologists, Correctional Facility; maintaining inventory, ordering required supplies, and having responsibility for storage and dispensing of supplies; maintaining and updating procedures manuals; coordinating maintenance services on machinery; assisting in the preparation of the radiologic department's annual budget; and other related duties.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit

and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.




Under the direction of the Chief Medical Executive and the supervison of the Correction Health Services Administrator I/II, Correctional Facility (CF), the Radiologic Technologist, CF instructs and prepares patients for radiologic examinations and takes x-rays for a variety of body structures. The Radiologic Technologist maintains equipment and quarters and keeps records and files. The Radiologic Technologist, CF may supervise incarcerated-workers and the conducts of patients in treatment.

Minimum Qualifications


All Levels:


Possession of a current valid certificate as a certified Radiologic Technologist in diagnostic radiologic technology issued by the California State Department of Health Services. (Applicants who are in the process of securing such certification will be admitted to the examination but must possess such certificate before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)


Radiologic Technologist, Correctional Facility


Either I

Two years of experience, including training in radiologic techniques and methods, under an accredited medical radiologist. (Successful completion of the work required for a graduate nurse may be substituted for one year of this required experience and training.)


Or II

Successful completion of a two-year training program in radiologic technology approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association, in collaboration with the American College of Radiology.
