DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Radio Telecommunications Specialist 2, you will be responsible for a wide range of radio system design and configuration duties in order to best support the needs of the Pennsylvania State Police. Specific functions include preparing detailed CAD drawings and specifications for radio communications equipment and communications rooms, inspecting construction sites involving new stations, and evaluating the overall quality of radio repairs and services performed by the communications contractor or their agents.
Excellent networking skills are essential, as you will serve as the liaison between Troop Communications Specialists and the division regarding requests for service equipment and assistance with other unique situations. You will also have the exciting opportunity to design and construct special electronic devices for use in the field and other circuits and systems for use by the State Police. Within this role, you will support Pennsylvania State Police operations at emergency incidents and pre-planned events which may involve driving and deploying Mobile Command Posts to critical incident locations, transporting and configuring portable and mobile radio equipment as required to support Command Posts and/or Joint Operations Centers during operational events, and providing radio communications support to personnel responding to such events as required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,736.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year as a Radio Telecommunications Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of radio, microwave or related telecommunications experience which includes two year of system design or configuration and three years of general telecommunications experience that involved the installation, repair or maintenance of large commercial and/or governmental systems or systems engineering analysis with a public utility, governmental agency or private company.
  • Post high school training in telecommunications technology, radio communications or electronics with emphasis in radio or microwave telecommunications may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years of general telecommunications experience.
