Quality Director - Metallurgical & Alloy Operations




Position Summary



We're seeking a highly experienced Quality Director to lead quality assurance, metallurgical testing, and process control for our heavy industrial alloy operations. You will oversee both lab and production quality systems, manage staff, own budget responsibility, and ensure our products meet stringent alloy, ASTM, and customer specifications.


Key Responsibilities




Lead, manage, and grow the metallurgical laboratory team, including testing, process validation, destructive & non-destructive testing (NDT), and standardization. Define, own, and continuously improve quality systems covering ISO 9001, ISO/ASTM alloy standards, internal audits, and related compliance programs. Oversee material qualification, alloy certification, and process control labs, including heat-treat, metallography, mechanical testing. Drive root cause investigations, CAPA, FMEA, SPC, and advanced analytics for alloy processes. Lead supplier quality programs in metals/alloys, audit suppliers, ensure traceability and material certification. Partner with operations, engineering, and R&D to ensure quality is embedded from design through production. Manage departmental budget, capital plans, quality investments, and performance metrics (KPIs). Ensure readiness for internal, customer, and regulatory audits.

Required Qualifications




Bachelor's or Master's in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (experience with metals/alloys)

Minimum 5 years

managing QC/QA teams in a heavy manufacturing or alloy/metals environment, with lab management & budgeting responsibility Hands-on experience in

metallurgical lab work

Deep knowledge of

metal standards

(ASTM, SAE, ISO, etc.) and alloy process control Certified Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2015 (required) Strong background in quality tools (FMEA, SPC, CAPA, root cause analysis) Experience with thermal and metallurgical processes: heat-treating, annealing, casting, forging, etc.

Preferred Qualifications




Experience in

IATF 16949, AS9100

, Experience with customer & material specification audits Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Outlook, Excel and Word).

Location & Travel




Located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with travel to manufacturing sites and supplier locations two times a year
