Duties and Responsibilities (*denotes essential functions)


1. *Work with University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) faculty and staff, TIDES program staff, higher education officials and community members to fulfill the goals and objectives of the program. Target schools/communities include Farrington High School, Kaimuki High School and Waipahu High School.


2. *Work with school administrators, teachers, and community partners to identify opportunities and/or activities that promote a college readiness culture for varied populations of families.
3. *Assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating first-year services at the UHM including new student orientation, college bridge programming, academic advising, college retention and career-related workshops including academic planning, career development, and leadership training which may include working outside of normal business hours such as evenings, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
4. *Assist with outreach, planning, and coordinating retention-related services and activities, to include establishing a co-requisite course model, connecting students with near-peer mentors, finding work-study/internship exchange opportunities, and facilitating workshops on financial aid and financial planning.
5. *Assist with developing and finding opportunities for students to engage in community, civic, and cultural activities associated with UHM and the students communities.
6. *Assist with planning and coordinating events, activities, and services for families, including family events and workshops on educational success, college readiness, and financial literacy.
7. *Serve as the liaison between community partners and organize meetings to insure continued participation in the program.
8. Review memorandum of agreement to ensure compliance with the goals and expectations of the project.
9. Assist with the collection of data and other assessment and development needs, as it pertains to project. Provide appropriate data and narrative for inclusion in the performance reports to the U.S. Department of Education.
10. Communicate on a regular basis with the TIDES program staff to ensure compliance with the goals and expectations of the project. Develop materials for distribution to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff.
11. Participate in ongoing project research and evaluation (focused on college access programs, education reform initiatives, language and culture awareness and academic enrichment).
12. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Human Development, Social Sciences, Counseling or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program administration and/or program coordination; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.


2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of college access and/or early college awareness programs demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with college access and/or early college awareness programs.
4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of college access and/or early college awareness programs.
5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
8. Knowledge of and familiarity with working with students and families in a university setting in Hawaii.
9. Knowledge of college access programs for a wide range of students.
10. Ability to conduct outreach and recruitment aimed at varied populations of students and parents.
11. Ability to manage sensitive information and files containing confidential student information.
12. Ability to work effectively, in a culturally sensitive manner, with individuals from a wide range of communities.
13. Ability to plan and implement activities and events for students at Farrington, Kaimuki, & Waipahu high schools and their parents/caregivers.
14. Ability to travel to and from co-location sites in a timely manner by means of personal vehicle with valid driver's license or comparable means of transportation to perform duties which meets position needs.
15. Ability to work outside of normal working hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed.

Desirable Qualifications


1. Master's degree in Education, Human Development, Social Work, Social Sciences, Counseling or related field.


2. Knowledge and experience with EDGAR, RCUH, UH policies and procedures, and FERPA.
3. Experience working with college access programs, particularly in recruitment and educational intervention efforts aimed at varied student populations.
4. Experience working within the Kalihi, Kaimuki (Palolo included) and Waipahu communities.
