The Manhattan-Staten Island Area Health Education Center (MSI AHEC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to improving healthcare outcomes in communities facing healthcare barriers. We advance this mission by supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds in exploring, preparing for, and pursuing careers in healthcare, strengthening the workforce pipeline and addressing persistent health disparities.

Our work is grounded in the following goals:

Foster strategic partnerships with community-based organizations, health professions schools, and healthcare providers to address healthcare workforce needs through education and training. Provide youth and young adults with exposure to a wide range of health professions through internships, clinical rotations, career exploration, and structured support. Enhance the preparedness of current and future health professionals serving medically underserved areas through patient-centered, culturally relevant training and continuing education. Design and implement programs and initiatives that address health disparities across Manhattan and Staten Island.

Position Overview



MSI AHEC is seeking a dedicated and experienced Program Manager to lead, promote, and support our health professions education and internship programs. This role has a strong focus on Staten Island in addition to programs across our Manhattan catchment areas.

The ideal candidate is passionate about healthcare workforce development, student career pathways, and community engagement, and brings a collaborative approach to working with healthcare providers, educational institutions, and community-based organizations.

Summary of Responsibilities



The Senior Program Manager is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of internship programs funded by MSI AHEC and its grantors. This position oversees program operations, student recruitment and placement, curriculum development, and partnership management.

A core component of the role involves cultivating and sustaining relationships with internship and program partners to expand placement opportunities throughout Staten Island, the Lower East Side, Washington Heights, and Harlem. Key Responsibilities



Build and maintain strong relationships with internship and program site partners. Recruit and support high school, college, and health professions students. Manage day-to-day program operations and administrative activities. Develop, implement, and update program curricula and materials. Conduct site visits to assess program quality and student placements. Maintain accurate program data within the NYS AHEC tracking system. Support sustainability efforts by cultivating relationships with local elected officials and stakeholders. Manage program expenses including record keeping and receipt tracking. Update and maintain program-related content on the organization's website. Conduct outreach to high schools, colleges, universities, healthcare organizations, and community-based partners. Prepare and deliver presentations to students, community boards, partner organizations, healthcare providers, and legislators. Draft correspondence, reports, and other program-related documents. Attend internal and external meetings as required. Respond to student inquiries and track internship placements and outcomes. Assist with grant applications, funding requests, and program proposals.

Education Requirements



Bachelor's degree required (BA/BS or equivalent); preferred fields include public health, community health, education, or a related discipline.

Experience and Skills



The ideal candidate has at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience and hands-on experience in program and/or curriculum development.

Additional preferred qualifications include:

Experience managing programs from planning through implementation Strong organizational and project management skills Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills Strong understanding of healthcare workforce challenges and healthcare disparity issues preferred. Excellent interpersonal, and attention-to-detail skills. Spanish language proficiency is a plus Familiarity with community health initiatives, youth-serving programs, and student internship models. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; familiarity with common software platforms and social media tools.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
