Experience and abilities you will need:

High school or equivalent (Preferred) Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the mining industry. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance. Watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. Ability to follow specific instructions while maintaining acceptable established standards of work performance and conduct, show the necessary and consistent energy, as well as acceptable mental and physical dexterity, for the satisfactory completion of the main responsibilities. Ability / willingness to work any shift assigned (days, swings, weekends, and graves) required. MSHA Certification (Preferred) Ability to work well in a team environment. Work in a fast-paced, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team. Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds on occasion. Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, non-DOT physical. Strong documented work history and reliable means of transportation are a must. You must live within 60 miles of Hesperus Co. or be willing to relocate.

32-Hour MSHA Certification Required

Candidates must complete a 32-hour MSHA certification course to be eligible to work on a federal mine site. If selected, training is provided by the staffing company through whom you will be initially hired.

Position Details:

Starting Pay: $22 - 24/hour (depending on experience) through a staffing agency Path to GCC employee: After a successful probationary period, which can run three to six months depending on performance and allowable headcount candidates would be eligible to transition to direct employment with GCC. Direct Hire Pay: $35.50/hour.

What you will do:

The Utility person will perform variety of tasks involving both physical labor and equipment operation for the purpose of mining coal.

Performs various general/manual labor duties on frequent basis such as shoveling; applying rock dust; gathering and delivering supplies and materials; greasing conveyor belt rollers; tail pieces and head drives; assisting other miners in performing their duties, etc. Assists in moving the section which primarily involves installing/retrieving mine conveyor belt, associated structure and devices, and moving up/pulling back the section main electrical power distribution center, battery chargers and associated electrical cables. Operates rubber tired, battery powered scoop to clean mine bottom, haul supplies and materials from place to place and remove trash and other debris from inside mine. Conducts pre-operational visual, physical and operational checks on machine and visually and physically examine conditions of face, roof and ribs of each place being cleaned. Transports machine from place to place safely and efficiently. Assists in moving section equipment in working face area, maintaining temporary and permanent ventilation controls, hanging of equipment trailing cables from mine roof. Relieves other equipment operators on as needed basis. Performs routine maintenance, including cleaning, on a machine. Operates diesel powered, rubber-tired forklift to load supplies in outside mine yard into scoop bucket. Conducts all work activities in compliance with Federal and State Coal Mining Laws and Company policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
