Rittman, OH, US, United States

Job Description

Job description

J&O Plastics Inc. is a dynamic growing manufacturing company committed to operational excellence. With a strong focus on innovation, efficiency, and quality, we are seeking a

Production Shift Supervisor

on 2nd shift to lead our first shift production team.

Position Summary:

The

Production Shift Supervisor-2nd Shift

provides high-level leadership for all personnel, production, and support activities on an assigned shift within production operation on their given shift. Drawing on extensive supervisory experience, the role drives safety, quality, delivery, cost, and morale objectives while instilling a culture of continuous improvement, data-driven decision-making, and disciplined use of MES/ERP (e.g., Plex) information.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development

Allocate operators and technicians to presses/work centers using an up-to-date skills matrix and succession plan.

Approve timecards, PTO, and overtime; develop cross-shift coverage strategies that protect capacity during peak demand or unplanned downtime.

Conduct daily tier-1 meetings, end-of-shift hand-offs, and documented coaching sessions; mentor junior supervisors and leads.

Drive an inclusive, accountability-based culture; handle complex conduct or performance issues through fact-based, legally compliant processes. Partner with HR to execute best practices for, Payroll and Benefits administration and reporting.

Production Planning & Execution

Translate the master production schedule into hour-by-hour targets; proactively re-allocate labor, tooling, or machines to sustain OTIF and OEE goals.

Coordinate set-ups, start-ups, and changeovers with tooling, automation, and maintenance teams; verify first-article approvals and process-sheet adherence.

Maintain a strategic view of WIP, raw-material availability, and downstream constraints to prevent bottlenecks.

Data Integrity & MES/ERP Oversight

Monitor MES/ERP dashboards in real time; correct scrap mis-entries, reprint skid tags, and resolve press/serial-number mismatches before transactions post.

Troubleshoot operator log-in discrepancies, barcode scan failures, and container/scan mismatches; escalate systemic faults to IT/MES support with clear problem statements.

Analyze shift-level data for trends and use insights to drive kaizen projects and preventive actions.

Performance Management & Continuous Improvement

Track OEE, scrap, and downtime; deploy countermeasures within one cycle for quality alarms and five minutes for downtime > 2 min.

Lead cross-functional 8D, A3, or DMAIC projects on chronic issues; validate corrective-action effectiveness and share lessons learned across shifts.

Champion 5S, TPM, and lean production; audit compliance, close gaps, and recognize team contributions.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

Enforce LOTO, PPE, and machine-guard checks; investigate incidents and near-misses within 24 hours and implement corrective actions. Verify press parameters and auxiliary settings against validated process sheets after every start-up or interruption; own the shift-level quality gate. Partner with quality team to insure process is followed and standards are met per shift.

Communication & Culture

Maintain detailed shift logs, KPI boards, and electronic pass-downs to ensure seamless continuity between shifts. Escalate barriers via a defined chain (Operator ? Technician ? Supervisor ? Manager) to guarantee rapid, structured issue resolution and coaching opportunities.

Qualifications:

7+ years of progressive production leadership in a manufacturing environment. Documented success improving KPI performance (OEE, scrap, downtime, safety) through coaching, structured problem-solving, and lean tools. Advanced knowledge of MES/ERP transactions, hour-by-hour production boards, and basic to intermediate SPC methods. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior leaders, conduct formal performance reviews, and resolve complex employee relations issues. Strong written and verbal communication; adept at presenting shift performance to senior management and cross-functional stakeholders. Ability to stand/walk > 75% of the shift, lift up to 50 lbs., and work rotating shifts, weekends, or overtime as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years supervising injection-molding operations or closely related plastics processes. Deep technical expertise in scientific/decoupled molding, first-article approvals, and auxiliary equipment troubleshooting. Associate or bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, Plastics, Engineering, or related field. Formal scientific-molding certification (e.g., RJG Master Molder I/II). Experience supervising 50+ operators/technicians across molded, decorated, and assembly operations. Familiarity with ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality-management systems and audit expectations.
