Principal Data Engineer, Analytics (Tableau Developer Experience)

Here at Cargomatic, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Engineer, Analytics with demonstrable track record and expertise in Data Modeling, Tableau development, and Embedded Analytics.

As the Principal Data Engineer, Analytics at Cargomatic, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing advanced data visualization solutions, enhancing our analytics capabilities, and driving innovation in our platform.

Note that this role will observe a hybrid-work model and can be based from our offices in San Francisco or Long Beach, CA.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and implementation of front end solutions for data analytics, leveraging Tableau and other relevant technologies, to deliver highly interactive and visually appealing data visualizations.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, gather insights, and translate them into effective data visualization solutions.
• Architect and develop scalable and performant embedded analytics solutions within existing applications, ensuring seamless integration and optimal user experience.
• Drive the design and development of advanced interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using Tableau Desktop and other tools, while adhering to best practices and data visualization standards.
• Optimize and enhance data models, data structures, and data pipelines to support efficient and accurate data analysis and reporting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including back-end engineers and data engineers, to ensure seamless data flow and integration between front end and back end systems.
• Perform thorough testing and optimization of Tableau visualizations and embedded analytics solutions to ensure optimal performance and user experience.
• Stay up to date with the latest advancements in front end development, data analytics, and Tableau, and champion their adoption within the organization.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior members of the team, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
• Lead code reviews, contribute to architectural discussions, and provide input on overall system design and implementation decisions.
• Collaborate with product management and UX/UI teams to ensure alignment between business requirements, user needs, and technical implementation.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in front end development, data analytics, and embedded analytics, and apply them to drive innovation within the organization.

Requirements:

• Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience as a Front End Software Engineer, with a focus on data analytics and Tableau development.
• Extensive experience and proficiency in Tableau Online, Snowflake & AWS basics, including advanced data modeling, visualization development, and administration.
• Certification in Tableau Server Professional or Tableau Architect
• Strong understanding of data visualization best practices, data analytics concepts, and experience with data manipulation for SQL and NoSQL based DBs
• Experience in front end development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js) is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement embedded analytics solutions within existing applications.
• Experience working with RESTful APIs and ETL/ELT processes
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions on time and within budget.
• Strong leadership and mentorship abilities, with a passion for fostering the growth and development of team members.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex ideas and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Prior experience in the logistics or transportation industry is a plus.

The expected salary range for this role is $155,000 to $170,000. The actual base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and other factors permitted by law. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
