Plains All American is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). We own an extensive network of pipeline transportation, terminalling, storage and gathering assets in key crude oil and NGL producing basins and transportation corridors and at major market hubs in the United States and Canada. On average, Plains handles more than 6 million barrels per day of crude oil and NGL in its Transportation segment. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

The Principal Architect proactively and holistically assists and guides business leaders, architects, solution delivery leaders, infrastructure and operations leaders through transformation and optimization initiatives, supporting the formulation of business strategy, outcomes and capabilities.

The scope of activities will vary including helping the organization achieve targeted business outcomes related to growing revenue, optimizing costs, mitigating risks and improving sustainability. The Principal Architect will lead the development of the 3-5 year strategic roadmaps in their respective discipline areas, helping align the 10 Year IS Vision and Enterprise Technology Plan (ETP) to the annual Operating Plan for IS. Similarly they will understand the correct sequencing of work aligned to our Enterprise Technology Foundations Program, ensuring new business systems and capabilities can be effectively underpinned and supported.

The Principal Architect must:
\xe2\x97\x8f Facilitate alignment between business and IT
\xe2\x97\x8f Engage business and IT stakeholders, building and maintaining relationships, understanding business strategies
\xe2\x97\x8f Adapt to changing business and operating models
\xe2\x97\x8f Analyze trends and disruptions, and assess their impact on targeted business outcomes
\xe2\x97\x8f Tell stories to visualize the future state and trigger long-term planning
\xe2\x97\x8f Support various operating models such as project-centric and future product-centric
\xe2\x97\x8f Communicate the value of enterprise architecture, and its portfolio of services
\xe2\x97\x8f Drive the evolution of the EA teams services and operating model
\xe2\x97\x8f Coach and mentor other architects, product owners/managers and business stakeholders to instill architectural thinking

Job Responsibilities:

1. Supports Formulation of Strategy and Guides Execution

  • Works with Business and Leadership Stakeholders to Develop Technology Strategy and Roadmaps
2. Builds and Maintains Relationships
  • Builds the EA value proposition, contributing to positioning the EA practice as an internal management consultancy, offering services and skills to support the development and execution of business strategy.
3. Orchestrates the Delivery of Business Outcomes
  • Positions the Business Architecture practice at the intersection of business and IT. Enables the business architecture practice to correctly map business unit people, process and technologies in order to help identify ideal replacement technologies.
4. Facilitates Innovation
  • Assesses disruptive forces affecting the organization and identifies technology-enabled innovation opportunities that enables business strategy.
  • Contextualizes trends based on technological, political, economic, social/cultural, trust/ethics, regulatory/legal, and environmental trends to enhance their strategic decision making.
5. Supports the end to end process of technology solutions
  • Supports Solution Design and Delivery
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s or Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience in strategic technical architecture planning. .
  • Ten or more years of experience in at least three disciplines, such as business, information, solution or technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations in a multitier environment.
  • Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture.
  • Ability to analyze the current architecture to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements.
  • Ability to provide strategic consultation to the business and IT leaders.
  • Ensures recommendations are based on business relevance, appropriate timing and deployment.
