The Police Support Services Specialist performs specialized clerical duties pertaining to the Police Records Division. Police Support Services Specialists play an important role in ensuring the Police Department runs efficiently and effectively, working in partnership with police officers, department staff, and the public.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a person beginning their career in administrative support who values keeping things organized and structured. You also need to have good written communication skills and excellent customer services skills. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Data entry and police case file assembly and maintenance including digitizing of case files in accordance with records retention guidelines.
  • Greet and screen all visitors for the RPD. Enforce sign-in and distribution of visitor badge ID,
  • Provide information to inquiries by the public, both over the telephone and at the counter, or direct to appropriate staff.
  • Process and enter court documents (protection orders and warrants); data entry for statewide crime reporting; citation/infraction accountability; review on-line reporting; and research legal information (RCW/WAC).
  • Maintain, process and retain all records requests for the police department. Assist with requests for public disclosure from insurance companies and the public and requests from other law enforcement agencies. Collect appropriate fees. Requires knowledge of laws and completion of request in certain time limitations.
  • Process and issue/authorize Concealed Pistol Licenses and Firearm Transfers.
  • Train new Records staff and officers on Records duties and provide refresher training when needed.
  • For employees listed on the City\'s Language Roster, provide bilingual language translation at the officer\'s request.
  • For employees who are a Notary Public, provide notary services as needed.
  • Coordinate outside vendors to handle special repairs or assist in emergencies with supervisor\'s approval.
  • Follow well-defined department policies and procedures in compliance with City, State, and Federal laws.


QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible clerical experience or any combination of experience and education which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
  • College degree and/or law enforcement support experience preferred. Experience with Records Management System also preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates who submit a cover letter and resume with application.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver\'s license by date of hire and maintain an insurable driving record by City standards.
  • Washington State Patrol\'s ACCESS certification must be completed within 6 months of hire.

SELECTION PROCESS:
  • Top candidates will be invited to a written examination (passing score 70%.) The written examinations are tentatively scheduled for May 9, 2023 and will be conducted in-person in Redmond, Washington.
  • Candidates who pass the written exam will be invited to complete Public Safety Testing\xe2\x80\x99s Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ), which is pass/fail.
  • Final candidates who have passed both the written and PHQ will be invited to an oral interview (passing score 70%; weighted at 100%). The oral interviews are tentatively scheduled for May 19 and will also be in-person in Redmond, Washington.
Background Investigation:
Polygraph, psychological exam, drug screening, medical exam and extensive on-site background investigation will also be required of selected candidates being considered for hire.

Automatic Disqualifiers:
The City of Redmond Police Department will automatically disqualify any individual who has at any time:
  • Lied during any stage of the hiring process.
  • Falsified his or her personal history questionnaire or application or failed to disclose pertinent information.
  • Been convicted of a felony (or pled nolo contendere to a felony charge) or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Washington State or has been incarcerated for any crime.
  • Sold marijuana, narcotics or dangerous drugs.
  • All illegal and/or recreational drug use will be closely scrutinized on a case by case basis.
  • Had a pattern of abusing prescription medication.
  • Been dishonorably discharged from the United States armed forces.
  • Received more than two moving traffic violations within the preceding 3 years; or reckless driving violation within the preceding 5 years; or driving while license suspended within the preceding 5 years; or driving while intoxicated within the preceding five years.
  • Been involved in more than one motor vehicle accident within the preceding 3 years for which the applicant received a traffic or criminal citation and was convicted, forfeited bail, or entered a plea of "guilty" or "nolo contendere."
  • Been previously employed as a law enforcement agent and since has committed or violated federal, state or city laws pertaining to criminal activity.
  • Committed any serious violation of Federal, State, City or County laws.
  • Been convicted of any crime under a domestic violence statute.
  • Unlawful sexual misconduct.
Discretionary Disqualifiers:
The following disqualifiers may, upon review by the Redmond Police Department, make you ineligible to become a City of Redmond Police Support Services Specialist:
  • Alcohol or substance misuse and/or abuse.
  • Excessive traffic violations.
  • Commission of a felony.
  • A demonstrated unwillingness to honor fiscal contracts or just debts.
  • Any other conduct or pattern of conduct that would tend to disrupt, diminish, or otherwise jeopardize public trust in the law enforcement profession.
  • An inability to perform the essential functions of a Police Support Specialist.
