2025 Anticipated hiring range: $29.41 - $31.66

2025 Salary range: $29.41 - $38.06

Major Areas of Accountability

Process, maintain and disseminate law enforcement data according to state law, adherence to Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) rules and department procedures. + Prepare reports, citations and other materials for court, outside agencies, and attorneys, including forfeitures, etc.
+ Enter data into law enforcement records management systems, including state and federal systems.
+ Complete case referrals to attorneys for consideration of filing criminal complaints.
+ Process expungements and resolve suspense files.
+ Validate data and check serial numbers for property items entered into the BCA and National Computerized Information Center (NCIC) databases.
+ Effectively maintain data, case files and data requests, so information can be easily accessed.
Maintain knowledge of Government Data Practices Act and process data requests, researching matters as required. Respond to requests by court personnel, attorneys, insurance companies, probation officers, social service agencies, local businesses and others. Provide services to all members of the police department, including proofreading materials for accuracy, taking messages, processing routine correspondence and transcription. Provide appropriate service to other governmental agencies and the public, respond to inquiries and complaints, receive and route calls, emails and faxes. Conduct background checks for city employment, permits, licenses and law enforcement purposes. Produce and provide standard reports related to law enforcement records. Perform other duties as apparent or assigned, including acting as the backup for the Evidence Technician, monitoring BCA messages, Monthly Supplemental Reporting System (SRS), BCA Validations, Statewide Detention System entry, creating and maintaining form templates, maintaining department phone lists, sharing court notices, scheduling court and extra duty, maintaining dog license data, ordering supplies, reconciling daily cash receipts, prioritize and distributing mail, providing visitors with IDs and escorts, working with vendors for equipment repairs, etc.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of law enforcement terminology Knowledge of Government Data Practices Act, Minnesota Statue 13.82, Comprehensive Law Enforcement Data, and Other Data Practices Related Laws Knowledge of various law enforcement applications Knowledge of the geography of the city, building and street systems Knowledge of support agencies including social services and community action programs Knowledge of the legal system Proficiency in Word and Excel software with the ability to accurately enter data in an efficient manner. Ability to learn new computer programs. Proficiency in verbal and written communications including accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation. The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form as well as tactfully and courteously, knowing when to ask for assistance. Ability to maintain a sense of calm stability when dealing with emotional or stressful situations. Proven ability to work independently to prioritize work requests as well as establish and maintain positive working relationships. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and always project a positive public image of the City of Lakeville. The ability to perform work requiring a high degree of concentration and judgment in interpreting practices and procedures to solve problems.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions



This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; Work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and pushing or pulling; Work has standard vision requirements; Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts; Work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

Qualifications


------------------


Associate's degree and 3 years of related work experience; or a combination of related education, training and/or work experience. Valid Driver's License
