This position serves as a Pipefitter within the Facility Management Service Center of the Boise VA Medical Center, located in Boise, Idaho. The primary functions include working with pipes and fittings from a range of high pressure to low pressure steam.

Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Layout pipe, thread, rough-in and finish bathroom, rough-in and finish kitchen
  • Conducts minor welding repairs and fabrication requiring the use of oxygen, acetylene, arc welding, and pipe welding
  • Inspects, adjusts, cleans, and repairs plumbing fixtures and systems, steam operated equipment, heating and water systems, waste lines, kitchen and laundry equipment, air compressors, medical compressed air systems, vacuum systems, oxygen systems, and natural gas distribution systems
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and manufacturers\' specifications for installing and repairing equipment
  • Conducts safety and preventive maintenance inspections of utility systems and equipment in accordance with VA regulations and National Codes
  • Interprets and applies building plans and blueprints to layout angles, arcs, and circles
  • Utilizes tools and equipment such as sliding squares, measuring tapes, dividers, and chalk lines
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm.
Compressed work schedule may be available.

Qualifications

This position requires the following current and valid certificates/licensures:

Current and valid journeyman plumbing license-submit a copy of your certification with your application to receive credit.

Current and valid medical gas installers license/certification-submit a copy of your certification with your application to receive credit.

Current and valid state driver\'s license-If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your current, valid, and unrestricted state driver\'s license.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: There is heavy lifting involved with this position. Assistance is usually available for the handling of heavier material and equipment. Heavy exertion is required a frequent intervals. This position works in noisy, confined areas, and on intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. This position may receive minor cuts or abrasion while performing these duties. Work can also require long periods of standing or sitting depending on the work schedule provided by the HVAC/Plumbing shop supervisor. The work conditions vary with the environment. Work assignments may be inside or outside. It is normal for working conditions to be dirty, dusty, greasy, and smoky. Work may be required in inclement weather. This position is continually exposed to the open flame of torches used to cut, braze, and solder pipe. This position may be assigned to work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and /or chemical agents are present. This position will be exposed to raw sewage. To ensure employee safety and health, personnel protection programs are maintained. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the Pipefitter may be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualification for duty.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
