Job Description


Pharmacy Technician Specialist \xe2\x80\x93 Anticoagulation

Under the supervision of the supervising Pharmacist, the Anticoagulation Technician will perform the functions necessary to help run the clinic. This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of procedures and protocols for collecting and documenting patient information appropriately for clinical pharmacy appointments and medication reconciliation
  • Provides technical assistance with collecting, clarifying, and documenting complete and accurate medication histories under the direction of the Clinical Pharmacist
  • Schedules patient appointments based on scheduling guidelines
  • Ability to work in multiple electronic documentation systems
  • Use of phone, fax, copy, and email in a professional manner
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement, identifying problems, suggesting alternatives, and evaluating solutions
  • Assist Clinical Pharmacists and other clinical pharmacy staff members in day-to-day functions
  • Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness towards patients and their families
  • Ensures efficient written and oral communication
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment, including sterilization of instruments
  • Maintains patient files, records, and other information according to offices
  • Remain updated and current on the electronic health record policies and procedures.
  • If required, central pharmacy coverage and all task associated with this role

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
  • High School Diploma with either completion of formalized pharmacy technician training program or equivalent work experience.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
  • Must have or be eligible for pharmacy technician registration in Connecticut.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Advanced knowledge of office procedures.
  • Must have basic computer skills and the ability to access the internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
  • Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
  • Excellent organizational and independent follow-up skills.
  • Able to handle confidential material and information.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of employees, managers, administrators, physicians, patients, program participants, and outside/community agency representatives.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical terminology.
  • Experience in working in an anticoagulation clinic (minimum 6 months required)
  • Must be proficient in the use of the Microsoft office suite including but not limited to Teams, Excel, Word
