#### Job Summary


Assists the pharmacists in performing pharmaceutical care and accurately fills prescriptions in a professional manner. Pharmacy technicians and trainees must always be supervised by a licensed pharmacist.


#### Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Process and prioritize prescription orders and refills Answer phone calls and check voicemail system Data Entry in Pharmacy Software System Add insurance cards to a patient profile Process third party claims Process prior authorization claims Communicate effectively with patients and co-workers Dress professionally per Valley Health Care Dress Code Policy Clock in and out Maintain professional integrity Receive, store, and validate incoming supplies and drugs Verify stock and maintain inventory records per VHC policy Conduct NDC audits Maintain a knowledge of 340B policies and procedures Keep the pharmacy area clean and orderly Check all stock for outdated medication on a regular basis Process the return of outdated medication to reverse distributor Process overstock returns to vendor Operate pharmacy POS system Close cash register and prepare deposits Offer counseling on new prescriptions Refer all questions regarding prescription and non-prescription medications to the pharmacist File prescriptions, except for Schedule II drugs Place completed prescription orders in will-call area Apply payments to credit accounts Print patient medication lists Mail out prescriptions per VHC policy Pack medications in SureMed Packaging using guided packing software Enroll patients in Sync Program and/or facilities Order supplies Maintain all licensing requirements, including continuing education Use fax machine to send/receive prescriptions and notifications Send and receive electronic orders in Pioneer system Appropriately identify and handle Hazardous drugs Attend meetings as required

Qualifications



Technician Trainees must register with the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy Certified Technicians must maintain State and National licensure (or equivalent) All technicians must understand laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of pharmacy and maintain adherence to such laws and regulations. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily after sufficient training program is completed. Must have basic computer skills, including typing and word processing.

Education and Experience




High School Diploma or equivalent required, completion of accredited training program preferred; Experience preferred but not required.

Understanding of Health Care Laws and Regulations


Must have the ability to follow HIPAA guidelines as well as an understanding of policies and procedures regarding medical records put in place by the Federal Government, Medicaid, Medicare, and WV Behavioral Health Laws put forth by the WV Department of Health and Human Resources.

Must listen to the customer, understand the customer, do what needs to be done to meet the customer's expectations, and take ownership of the customer experience.


Computer Literacy


Knowledge of basic computer software (MS Office - Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the willingness and ability to learn electronic medical records software.

Must demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

An essential element is the ability to work and interact effectively and positively with other staff members to build and enhance teamwork in the VHC organization; team engagement is necessary to be successful in this position.


Work Record


A demonstrated work record showing good attendance, punctuality, dependability, and the ability to collaborate well with supervisors and coworkers as part of a team effort is essential. Language Skills


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively to patients or employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills


Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Additional Skills


Must be able to read and interpret medical and work environment-related documents involving patient care, program descriptions, government regulations, and VHC policy and procedures.


Sensitivity to Needs of Special Populations


Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and sensitivity to cultural differences and needs of VHC patients and be able to respond appropriately to all people regardless of race, ethnicity, language, age, sex or sexual orientation, religion, disability, economic standing, etc.
