FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacist in performing pharmacy related duties as necessary. Completes data entry of all new written, electronic, and faxed prescription/refill authorizations. Ensures all information is complete and accurate when entering patient information into the computer system. Receives and maintains inventory and assists the Pharmacist in maintaining accurate records of controlled drugs. Prepares prescriptions for mailing. Assists patients at the register when picking up medications or purchasing over-the-counter items, directing questions to the pharmacist when needed. Works with third party payers to resolve re-imbursement issues. Helps to maintain a clean work area. Abides by all pharmacy and hospital policies and procedures. Completes necessary annual competencies to ensure compliance with pharmacy policies. Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience: At least one year experience in a pharmacy, preferred. Be able to work accurately with cash and the cash register. Licensure, Registration, Certification: Eligible for obtaining State Pharmacy registration for Technicians. Mental/Physical Requirements: (may be met with or without reasonable accommodations): Considerable mental concentration required for long periods of time. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching are required. Must be able to lift 20 lbs. from the floor and overhead, and 40 lbs. from waist height; exercise good body mechanics in execution of essential duties, including appropriate back and neck posture. Working Conditions: Exposure to infectious materials and other hazardous conditions. Frequent interruptions. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and stressful situations.
