The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of medications, providing essential support to ensure efficient and accurate pharmacy operations at the Little Shell Health Clinic (LSHC). As an integral part of the LSHC multidisciplinary healthcare team, this position will collaborate with other medical professionals to ensure customer-owners receive optimal care in a patient-centered, outpatient environment.
II. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications, including counting, labeling, and packaging medications accurately.
Ensure proper storage and handling of medications, including controlled substances, in accordance with pharmacy regulations.
Prepare and dispense medications in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring customer-owner safety and adherence to medication orders.
Review prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Process and prepare medication orders for customer-owners, ensuring proper labeling and dosage instructions.
Maintain accurate inventory levels, ensuring that medications and supplies are appropriately stocked.
Monitor the expiration dates of medications and assist with rotating stock to prevent waste.
Assist in managing pharmacy stock levels by receiving and checking inventory shipments, placing orders, and organizing shelves.
Help prepare medication orders for refills and ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for inventory control.
Assist patients by providing information on medication usage, side effects, and proper administration under the guidance of the pharmacist.
Process prescription refills and verify patient information and insurance details.
Offer customer service to customer-owners, addressing inquiries and referring to the pharmacist when necessary.
Maintain confidentiality of customer-owner information and adhere to HIPAA guidelines when interacting with customer-owners.
Maintain accurate customer-owner records, including medication profiles and medication histories.
Ensure accurate billing for prescriptions, insurance claims, and co-pays.
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of medication-related documentation, including patient medication profiles and medication logs.
Operate pharmacy software to enter, update, and retrieve patient prescription information.
Ensure that all medications are dispensed according to safety protocols, including checking for possible drug interactions and allergies.
Follow procedures to comply with federal and state regulations (e.g., FDA, DEA, etc.).
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, following infection control and safety protocols.
Assist in preparing medications for special customer-owner needs (e.g., compounding, intravenous medications) under the supervision of the pharmacist.
Work collaboratively with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other pharmacy staff to ensure the safe and effective use of medications.
Participate in team meetings to discuss workflow, inventory needs, and patient care issues.
Assist with training and mentoring new or less experienced pharmacy staff as needed.
Other duties as assigned and in keeping with standards of practice.
III. TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, a commitment to patient safety, and a passion for providing high-quality pharmaceutical care in an outpatient setting. Experience working with an interprofessional health care team and with American Indian/Alaska Native, minority, or under-resourced communities is desired.
A. Knowledge
Some knowledge of pharmacy operations, clinical pharmacy services, and regulatory requirements.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, medications, and dispensing procedures.
Familiarity with pharmacy software systems and proficiency in data entry.
B. Skills
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel), electronic medical records, email and data base software.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask effectively.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent.
V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Essential job duties require sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods and occasional lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. There may be occasional need to move supplies and equipment. The position requires manual dexterity to handle equipment and pharmaceuticals. It also requires focusing on close and distant visual tasks and the ability to hear normal conversational discussion.
VI. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Candidates must be able to pass a drug test at the time of hire and throughout employment.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting or clearance as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG). Employees must pass a criminal background periodically throughout employment.
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, no alcohol related conviction, and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe.
VII. INDIAN PREFERENCE
The position is subject to the Little Shell Tribe's Indian Preference Policy.
