The Position
Personnel Technicians perform a wide variety of personnel activities including personnel records processing, recruitment and examining, new hire orientation, list certification, and payroll support duties.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR), protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The NDCNR with over 900 employees consists of the Director's Office and the following divisions and programs: Environmental Protection, Forestry, State Lands, State Parks, Water Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Heritage, State Historic Preservation Office, Off-Highway Vehicles, Sagebrush Ecosystem, and the Conservation Districts Program.
The Department also provides support staff to the Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and has responsibility for numerous Boards, Commissions, and Councils. The Department has locations and/or provides program services in every community of the State. The NDCNR Director's Office is seeking a Personnel (Human Resources) Technician 2. The position is located in Carson City, NV and remote work is not an option. This position serves as the frontline Human Resources (HR) support for the NDCNR HR team and assists and backs-up the HR Officer and HR team within the Department as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to logging, filing, organization of paperwork and files; serving as the initial contact for leave programs including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA); Catastrophic (CAT) Leave; Accommodation Requests, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); Workers' Compensation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); Ergonomic Evaluations (Ergo Evals); and Military Leave; assisting and working through recruiting processes; conducting new and transfer-in employee orientations; and ensuring documents are complete and all supporting documents are attached for processes such as reclassification requests, accelerated rate requests, unemployment claims, and more. The incumbent will attend meetings, take notes, provide resources to employees, prepare reports, and provide general HR-related support as needed. The DCNR HR team is a small and diversified team supporting a variety of employees across the state so flexibility and attention to detail are a must. The position may also provide administrative support and backup coverage within the Director's Office as needed. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
