Pediatrician

Status:Exempt, Full-Time \xe2\x80\x93 1.0 FTE

Responsible for:

Hours of Work: Monday-Thursday 8a-6p or Monday-Thursday 8a-5p, Friday 8a-12p

Job Context:

The Pediatrician is responsible for providing medical care to patients under the age of 18 at Good Shepherd Community Clinic, Inc. (GSCC), and for the quality of services rendered. The Pediatrician diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries, promotes preventive care and overall well-being. He/She collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in development of health care plans. The Pediatrician will also provide preceptorship opportunities for medical students at GSCC.

Main Areas of Responsibility:
  • Oversight of Medical Students
  • Maintain detailed patient records through use of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)system
  • Provide excellent patient care
  • Work with QI/QA Committee and Board to develop and uphold a quality assurance program
  • Oversee Vaccine Administration
  • Ensure Medical Compliance
  • ER & Hospital Follow-up
  • Perform assessments and diagnoses of pediatric patients and offer appropriate treatment, guidance, and preventive measures
  • Review and develop patient education material
Responsibilities:
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of children\xe2\x80\x99s diseases and epidemiology as well as the established examination procedures for patients ages newborn to 21
  • Promotes smooth interactions with other departments and fosters good interdepartmental relations
  • Ability to foster long term trust relationships with children and their parents
  • Conduct regular thorough examinations on newborns and young children to check and record their health and normal physical development
  • Examine sick children to determine their condition and ask intuitive questions to gather information about symptoms
  • Reach an informed diagnosis based on scientific knowledge and individual medical history
  • Prescribe medications and give detailed instructions for administration
  • Prescribe and interpret appropriate lab tests to gain more information for possible infections or abnormalities
  • Understanding and abiding by consent laws relevant to legal guardians
  • Prepare and administer vaccines according to the governmental vaccination plan
  • Examine and treat injuries and refer patients to physicians of other disciplines when necessary (e.g. surgeons, ophthalmologists, orthopedists, etc.)
  • Advise parents on children\xe2\x80\x99s diet, exercise and disease preventive measures
  • Keep updated records of patients\xe2\x80\x99 illnesses, surgeries or other medical episodes (allergies, injuries, etc.)
  • Keep abreast of advancements in pediatrics and best practices by attending seminars and conferences
  • Up to speed knowledge of drugs/medications appropriate for children and their side-effects
  • Familiarity with traditional and web-based prescription systems
  • Works well with supervisor and all others in positions of authority
  • Maintains cooperative working relationship with all personnel

  • Utilizes proper body mechanics and safe working techniques and reports unsafe environments/practices to CMO in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates understanding of HIPAA Privacy Standards and GSCC policies
  • Ability to work independently, while collaborating with other team members.
  • Ability to work with patients/families of all ages.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine and licensed as a Pediatrician in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Five years practice experience beyond training; in pediatric care
  • Outstanding communicator, both written an orally
  • Proficiency in MS Office and electronic medical records system software.
Desirable:
  • Prior experience serving patients from low-income economic status.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone. Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Must have strength sufficient to assist with lifting and transferring a patient and perform CPR. Must have sufficient mobility to bend, stoop, and bend down to the floor; ability to move around rapidly; and to move in small, confined areas.
