Job Description

Position Purpose


The Patrol Corporal has an assigned area of responsibility to directly support the functions, goals and objectives of the Department of Safety and Security, particularly in customer service, access control and security operations at Parkhurst Hall, helping to enhance a positive environment, and the general protection, safety and security of the Dartmouth community.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


Three to five years' experience within the field of security in higher education or other direct security or law enforcement experience. Background in first aid and CPR. Strong verbal communication skills, both orally and in writing, for effective public interactions and report writing. Ability to communicate well with students, faculty, staff and administrators. Self-starter and problem solver, able to work alone and follow through on initiatives. Demonstrated ability to response under stress and follow established procedures. Motivated and self-driven with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, and as part of a high-performing team. Proficiency in MSOffice and other computer software. Experience with and knowledge of modern, efficient public safety technologies and contemporary campus safety and security strategies, to include emergency management. Must hold a valid driver's license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.



Preferred Qualifications


An Associate's degree or Bachelor's in Criminal Justice or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in DoSS (Department of Safety and Security) systems (Informant, LiveSafe, Lenel, Banner, ExacqVision, etc.). Familiarity with Dartmouth and DoSS operations to include knowledge of DoSS directives, and policies. Knowledgeable of ICS and NINMS as well as a strong understanding and grasp of Higher Ed Federal regulations such as Clery, VAWA, Title IX and FERPA. Previous experience within DoSS, and institutional knowledge of safety and security operations. Have completed ICS 100 and ICS 200, with ICS 700

Key Accountabilities

Description


Patrol, Building Security and Access Control Duties



Responsible for handling the daily access control and security of the assigned area of responsibility (Parkhurst Hall). Patrol exterior and interior of the building upon opening and closing. Remain alert and vigilant, patrol grounds, building interior and exterior, parking lots, etc. checking for theft and/or damage, suspicious activities/persons and/or anything out of the ordinary that could compromise the safety and security of community members and/or facilities. Answer Calls for Service and, when warranted, respond to incidents and document all actions in a proper manner.Monitor building video and alarm systems. Enforce access control policies, and visitor registration (greet and register) if implemented. Answer the phone and provide information. Promote good customer service and public relations via exemplary professional delivery of safety and security services. Monitor and respond, in a timely manner, to activations of a wide variety of systems including intrusion alarms, access control, life safety (fire, CO2, etc.), video/cameras, Safety App notifications, etc.

Description


Security and Emergency Response Duties



Take lead in the prompt response to building emergencies (e.g., fire, medical emergencies, disturbances, etc.). Evaluate incidents and request response and support from Supervisor, more DoSS staff, and/or from Police, Fire, EMS and other emergency services as appropriate. Coordinate building evacuation as necessary. Greet emergency responders and direct them to affected areas. Send prompt internal building communications about events and incidents affecting the building operations and/or its occupants. Respond to other emergencies, as needed, providing support, assistance and appropriate actions in crisis situations.

Description


Office Duties





Keep a Daily Activity Log documenting all activities carried out during shift; write and file complete yet concise Incident Reports (IR) documenting response to any incidents. Maintain and update, as needed, a Post Profile to document building operations, functions, occupants, contacts, etc. Maintain a log of all building services (deliveries, repairs, maintenance, etc.). Schedule and at times lead security related training for building occupants on: Alarms, evacuation, crisis intervention, emergency communications, etc.

Description


General Duties



Remain polite and consistent, at all times, when dealing with community members. Some of the most important aspects of security work in higher education are attitude and approach when dealing with members of the community. Keep all security related matters in confidence unless otherwise instructed by direct supervisor or unless necessary to aid in an investigation or to gather information. This includes not discussing such information with students or College employees without prior authorization or approval from the Director. Cultivate and promote a culture of safety where the emphasis on safety is ingrained in every aspect of the workplace. Foster an environment where employees take ownership of their safety responsibilities. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others, and a dedication to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse campus population. Able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies as required. Will perform regular Patrol Officer's duties when assigned.
