DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A Parole Agent 1 is trainee level work in the supervision of parolees (Field Operations) or professional parole counseling of offenders preparing for release from an institution (State Correctional Institution).

Institutional Parole Agents work within correctional facilities to prepare offenders for parole hearings. In addition to coordinating and monitoring the status of an offender\'s completion of mandated programs, they conduct critical preliminary interviews to determine their readiness for release and re-entry into the community.

Successful completion of the 12-month training/probationary period will result in a promotion to Parole Agent 2 with an increase in salary!

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (40 hours/week).
  • Work schedule and hours to be determined; holidays and weekends as required.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50/55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of paraprofessional experience which includes two years of paraprofessional social services, human services, corrections, or law enforcement experience; or
  • Two years of paraprofessional social services, human services, corrections, or law enforcement experience, and an associate\'s degree; or
  • A bachelor\'s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, legal studies, political science, behavioral science, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are with 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Necessary Special Requirement:
  • All positions require possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver\'s license or equivalent.
Conditions of Employment:
  • All employees must obtain CLEAN certification within two months of employment and maintain this certification for the duration of employment in this job.
  • Successful completion of up to a nine (9) week training program at the Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA.
  • Participate in training programs including firearms, defensive tactics, and personal safety techniques.
  • Wear, carry, and use protective devices such as ballistic vests and pepper spray.
  • Work independently and encounter potentially dangerous situations working in neighborhoods, offenders\' homes, and prisons.
