Summary

This position is part of the Divisional Design & Packaging Organization supporting the North America Home Care Category. This position is responsible for the development and engineering of new, innovative packaging solutions, collaboratively with Global and Division Marketing, Supply Chain and Manufacturing. This role will have broad responsibilities acting as key contact point in the Manufacturing plant supporting the product development, technology transfer as well as packaging materials improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Support the primary company strategies of Driving Growth by developing and implementing innovative consumer preferred packages; and Funding Growth by driving savings and standardization efforts regionally. The role is cross-functional in nature, working closely with Marketing, Network Operations, Manufacturing and Supply Chain. Partnerships with outside packaging vendors are a critical element of job responsibilities.
  • Support the conceptualization, initiation, development and implementation of new and improved packages and processes including: packaging specifications, mold qualification, functionality and quality testing, and technology transfer.
  • Support implementation and support for new product launches, cost savings & operations efficiency initiatives, and quality investigations
  • Responsible for Technology Transfer from Package Engineering to Manufacturing Operations to ensure new packaging systems perform as designed and meet operational targets
  • Modify the design of packaging systems and packaging components, ensuring defined needs for brand equity aesthetics, consumer acceptance, manufacturing capability, quality and cost are met from the program brief through design, engineering and commercialization
  • Understand, interpret and refine package testing procedures and standards to support the effective design, validation, and implementation of new packages and packaging technology. Provide meaningful explanations and forward actions to appropriate Divisional personnel.
  • Write and present technical and business summaries for both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Create cost and savings estimates, tooling/package qualification plans, technology transfer documentation and final package component specifications, Bills of Materials, Manufacturing Specifications, case/cube information
  • Coordinate and assist line trials to ensure package performance for manufacturing. Attend component and manufacturing startups as needed to ensure proper execution of design & function.
  • Responsible for aspects of project management: project planning, follow up key milestones and technology transfer associated with projects. Manage flow of information, communicate project timelines, costs, and associated risks.
  • Understand and interpret package testing procedures and results to support the effective design, qualification, validation, and implementation of new package systems.
  • Partner with plant engineering to ensure that packaging equipment/material system specifications, functionality and design are appropriate for use.
Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications
  • BS/BA degree in Package Engineering/Technology/Science or related engineering field (e.g. Industrial Engineering, Industrial Design or Chemical engineer)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in package development/engineering, preferably in home care industry
Preferred Qualifications
  • Innovation experience partnering with design and marketing
  • 3 year of experience, preferably in the consumer products industry
  • Material science knowledge of plastics, labels, printing and decoration techniques
  • Knowledge of PET bottles (manufacturing processes and troubleshooting)
  • Knowledge of injection molding (eg: PET preforms, flip top caps)
  • Knowledge of flexible packaging (tubes, sachets, thermoform)
  • Knowledge of packaging operations, processes, and equipment
  • Knowledge of paperboard packaging and corrugate
  • Project Management skills with experience leading cross functional teams
  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse cultures and global partners
  • Experience with statistical and predictive engineering tools (e.g.: Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA))
  • Experience initiating and leading continuous improvement teams and plans
  • Demonstrate strong documentation skills (eg: Test reports, specifications, etc.)
  • Experience using SAP or other ERP software and/or plant-related computer systems
  • Experience with CAPE/TOPS, MS Project, AutoCAD
Salary Range $88,800 - $131,250 USD
