1st Shift, Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday, 8:00am \xe2\x80\x93 5:00pm

As the Lead Packaging Engineer, you will ensure that all parts are assigned the correct packaging and develop protective packaging containers for parts that have not been processed previously. What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do on a typical day:

  • Apply packaging expertise to research packaging problems (including damages occurred in transportation)
  • Develop, lead and monitor projects to drive strategic and tactical packaging improvement; understand implicated project efforts and impact to company direction and profitability
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and eliminate gaps
  • Continuously research and explore new technologies, designs, materials and processes to help drive strategic quality and cost improvements
  • Develop, interpret and communicate technical reports in both written and verbal forms
  • Serve as the technical packaging expert; develop Standard Work Instructions (SWI) for packaging standards and processes
  • Train key personnel on proper packaging techniques
  • Specify packing methods to be used based on mode/method of transportation and product profile; specify containers/cartons and packing (void fill) medium requirements; identify outbound labeling/documentation requirements; provide annual cost estimates for packing materials; and create cartonization tables
What you need to succeed at GXO:

At a minimum, you\xe2\x80\x99ll need:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • 4 years of technical experience in the packaging engineering field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • To meet government and federal law program requirements which requires U.S. citizen status and security clearance
It\xe2\x80\x99d be great if you also have:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work well with multiple cross-functional teams
  • Availability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt designation or equivalent coursework
  • Proficiency with CAD \xe2\x80\x93 CREO or Solidworks
  • Packaging performance testing experience \xe2\x80\x93 test protocols from ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) and ASTM D 4169 Performance Package testing
  • Experience with the following: MIL STD 129, MIL STD 2073 and MIL STD 1686
  • Shop floor supervisory experience in a supply chain support operations environment
